*4 days after Jake's bad reaction to the counter-reactant drug*
"So the drug you just gave him should make him come out of the coma?" Amanda asked in complete awe.
"Well, the point in which he wakes up is mostly up to Jake's body. This is just to assist in the process," the doctor says pressing the sharp metal into the syringe drawing the clear liquid.
Jake's sister and parents were the only ones still at the hospital. The rest of his friends came back for daily visits, but only for a few hours at a time. I went back to Chris' house for a shower 2 days ago; there was no way I could even step foot in Jake's apartment with knwoing there's a slight chance he might not make it. Although they were here for 50% of the time, Jake's parents and sister still tried to carry on with their daily lives. They went home and slept in their own beds while I was the only one at his side for every hour of the day and night.
Not looking away from my boyfriend, I listen to the doctor explaining how there's a slight chance he might not wake up even with the medicine.
He looked so fragile and beautiful. He was so much more pale than usual; almost like an angel.
I didn't take much effort to set myself up comfortably beside Jake's bed; all I really needed was a chair to sit on so I could be beside him.
"I'm not trying to be negative, I'm trying to be realistic. Jacob might not wake up from this," the doctor says putting a comforting hand on Jake's mother's shoulder.
My whole body shutters at the thought of that.
"But he will wake up..." I say.
Everyone in the room quickly looks at me. Those were the only words I've said since 'don't you fucking leave me' to Jacob when he was having that awful attack. That was 4 days ago. I was even surprised I could talk at all, I had started to forget what my voice sounded like.
"At the moment we can't see any reason why he won't. As long as his condition doesn't deteriorate then everything should be fine."
Amanda sigh and crossed her arms. Basically the doctor just said 'the odds in him waking up are good but he might also die'. She hated when doctors dressed up morbid facts with fancy words.
Everyone in the room refrained from making any noises, and hardly even breathed as the doctor inserted the IV into Jake, and then tossed the needle in the disposal box.
"That's it?" Jake's dad asked. It's obvious everyone hoped there would be an instant reaction and Jake would wake up, but there was none. He just laid there.
"That's it," the doctor said making no eye contact to anyone as he exited the room.

*2 days later*
"Why don't you come home with us sweetie. You look like you need a meal and a shower," Mrs Hoggard said trying to be loving and sweet. It's beyond me how people can put on a fake smile in a time like this. "Don't worry about him, he'll be fine. It's just for a couple hours." She says trying to persuade me.
"What if he wakes up..."
She bends down and begins stroking my hair, "he wouldn't want you to worry like this. He's going to wake up so you don't have to be concerned. He'll be so heavily medicated he won't even remember if you're here or not."
"I need to be here."
"(Y/N)," she says sternly removing your hand from being attached to his, "come on."
Obviously she wasn't joking around. I suppose a few hours away from this place could do me some good.
I stand up and look at her with no expression on my face. She walks out of the room so it's completely empty, with the exception of me and Jake. I lean over and kiss his cheek. And then his neck. And then his soft, fragile hand. I miss the feeling of him kissing me back. "I love you," I whisper right into his ear. He wouldv've to love the feeling of my warm breath on his neck if he was conscious...it's the little things like that which make our love real. "I'll be back in a few hours darling."
*3 hours later, in the car driving back to the hospital*
"He was born that this hospital you know," Mrs Hoggard explains looking out the car window, "he was one of the smallest babies ever. Even tinier than his sister. He never cried...ever. He was a miracle." She stopped talking for a few seconds and a grin grew on her face, "by the time he was 3 he was the exact opposite. Such a little rascal...and has been ever since," she laughed. "He's perfect the way he is though. I was so concerned when he was a kid, I honestly thought he was too much to handle, but it all seemed to work out. When he was kicked out of school I thought that was it for him, I didn't know what to do. But now when I sit backstage at his concerts I realize what a perfect man he's turned into. What else could you ask for in a person?"
'Absolutely nothing.' You think as tears roll down your face.
*At the hospital*
At a fast paced jog, the doctor tries to pull you over as you reach the emergency center of the hospital where Jake is staying.
"Excuse me (Y/N)," he says trying to block your path down the hallways so you can't get to Jake's room.
"I just need to see him, can we talk in his room?" you say trying to get passed him.
"No, unfortunately, no, um," he says as sweat starts to formulate on his forehead.
What's going on...
Jake's parents finally catch up to you, "Oh great, Mrs and Mr Hoggard, I uh, take a seat," he says motioning his hand to the chairs in the waiting room.
The doctor wipes the sweat off his brow and takes a deep breath. The parents take a seat and ask how their son is doing. The doctor ignores the question.
"Why don't you take a seat," he says to me pointing towards the chair beside Mr Hoggard.
"I'm fine standing, get on with it."
The was a moment of silence.
"While you were gone, something happened."
The doctor started talking in fancy medical terms again.
"WHAT'S happening??? Is he ok, please, just talk like a normal fucking person. I beg you. How is my boyfriend?"
"I'm sorry, but Jacob didn't make it. It happened about 20 minutes ago. We did everything we could but..."
And then everything turned black. My legs buckled and I collapsed to the floor, unconscious.
