loser
As the lights turned down and their guns flashed and vibrated, all that was going through Ami's mind was shit, shit, shit.
Michael, on the other hand, was having a blast. He was great at laser tag, and was happy that it was going to be such an easy game for him. Well, not really. It would be easy to beat Ami, for sure, but Michael had seen some nerdy looking kids while entering the arena, and he was convinced they were a threat to his skill.
The countdown began, and pretty soon, the unenthusiastic speaker was down to six seconds.
"Six."
Michael smirked down at Ami, nudging her slightly with his shoulder.
"Five."
Ami glared up at him, crossing her arms over her chest. It was a bit hard to do, since her gun was so bulky.
"Four."
Michael grinned, reaching his hand out to her.
"Three."
Ami stared at it for a split second, before putting her small hand in his larger one, giving it a weak shake to which Michael chuckled at.
"Two."
Michael leaned down to get to Ami's height, his breath tickling her ear and making her accidentally hit him. She couldn't help it, she was extremely ticklish.
Michel gave up on trying to whisper to Ami, so he cupped his hands around his mouth and yelled instead. "Best of luck, sweetheart."
"One."
Ami rolled her eyes, and kicked Michael in the shin. "You're an ass."
"Go!"
They all spread apart quickly, some kids going for each other, like Michael, while others decided to run and hide, such as Ami.
She ran up the stairs, not going nearly as fast as she had anticipated. She couldn't help it, she was in poor shape.
Gasping for breath after barely ten seconds of running, Ami whipped around a corner and sunk to the ground. She tried to level out her breathing, but she was still breathing as if she had just ran a marathon.
All around her, kids screamed and ran past her crouched figure, but she was frozen in place.
She never wanted to go to this stupid laser tag game, but her friends had forced her to. They knew she hated crowds and competition, but of course, they decided to take her to a place where both were incorporated so heavily.
And of course they had to ditch her last minute, when she had already signed in and gotten her wristband. It was surely the worst birthday of her life, and not even Michael could change that.
All she wanted do was go home and eat half baked and cry, but no, she was stuck playing lasertag with ten year olds and some random guy with bright hair.
Ami didn't want to stay in one place for long, in fear of Michael finding her, so she snuck up to the upper level.
She crouched in a dark corner, letting her hair down so that it covered the bright lights that radiated from her censors.
She was calm, just sitting there and watching everyone, until she heard a voice from about twenty feet away.
"Ami?" Michael drawled out, walking painstakingly slowly towards her.
Ami's eyes widened, and her heart began to race. She knew it was only a silly game of lasertag, but she didn't want to be stuck going on a date with Michael. Guys were too complicated, she favored food and television much more.
