Chapter 4 - The Black Chain

The next morning (or rather, at noon), when Rui awake, there hardly see anyone in the camp. Only a few guards were left, most of with her beloved fiancée, her surrogate pops, and newly acquired acquaintances, who were fighting for their lives. She was angry, but to herself. Since she is not experienced in fighting, only at the most basic level, so she cannot be there and help.

- Rui-sama, lunch is almost ready.- One of the guards spoke, and she just nodded. As Rui headed toward her bag, she noticed a small piece of paper on top.

-Thank you. Shin. - It was pretty cat scratching, but the contents could be taken out. Rui smiled to herself and opened the bag, which had one more thing besides the usual equipment. A long, weighted black chain with eyes sharpened at the sides and apparently very nice to know what they were spinning. Rui stared it for a while, and some of the most treasured memories seen to regain.

Flashback

- Grandpa, You're sure thats enough?- Rui asked with a rather dirty, black marked face, after successfully grinding the obsidian pieces she had laid in front of her. Two of her brothers, who had just put on one armor on the other side of the workshop, watched the events.

- Yes Rui. Put it down beside me, then - pointing at the three swords on the wall - go and finish them! Tomorrow, Ou Sen comes for them.

- Why am I getting the old fucker? - She blurted, and the old man throw for the weighted hammer to his granddaughter's direction..

-Because you have to get used to the arrogant and picky customers, little lady.

-Yeah yeah, you can't always make it for your would-be father-in-law's warriors. - One of her brother start to tease her, but Rui kicks him out of the running, but he's almost jerking the whole armor with him.

- Go get yourself a chick and calm down, you moron! - The two idiots fought until a fourth member entered the room and picked them up.

- That's enough, brats.

- F-father! - They said in union when they got another punch on their head. -Instead of having fun here, help put the shields on the cart.

- Rui, you don't - Yu Ro said to the girl trying to escape from the background - You must make swords first!

- Urgg..,okay, grandpa.... - The girl said in a headscratch, and moved reluctantly towards the swords ...

End of Flashback

Rui swung the heavy end of the chain toward the nearby armored dummy, which, despite the softer stroke, had open a nice hole. The second stroke did not hit directly, but the sharp edges of the links cut the side of the armor like the hot knife the butter. The young blacksmith once again delved into her thoughts.

Weighting is difficult, yet .... working out and managing it. Grandpa didn't make it for a man, but for a woman...whom is not like me. she mumbles, her hands're trembling. It's for a warrior.

Flashback

- Rui, I told you to cool it down again!

- Their prospective owner will do it!

-  He won't take it, especially if you finish  like that!

- I didn't even crash!

- You didn't my cock! Look at it, it's full of heating errors! Where were your thoughts again when you were at work ?!

- I am not also in Ou Sen's things, you usually leave them to my brothers!

- I'm not interested in your opinion, little lady! You're a blacksmith, you make gear for someone who pays for it! Now start over immediately!

 'bit later

- Hey, Grandpa.

- Hm? - the old man looks up at his granddaughter.

-Who will have this?- Rui stared at the chain, but her grandfather shrugged.

- I'll see who gets it.

- What?! Hey, you just before...

- I can do that, honey, but you haven't. - Here Rui hangs her head and looks at the iron in front of her.

- Im sure you hate that, im so different...

- I don't hate you dear, I'm just scared. - the old man stand up and walk toward Rui - Because you're just like me, when i was in your age. At that time, I made decisions that I shouldn't have thought about ...

- Pops ...

- Come on, who knows that the my only  granddaughter be my little reflection? - He Laughs - But it could be good ... just don't forget Rui ...

- Rui-sama!- out of another glimpse, she was yelled at by a soldier' and as an arrow almost striked trought her. The nearby soldier moved her out just in time. Rui still holding the chains, trying to process the latest moments.

-What happened?- Then she looked to the side and saw the flag of Ren Pa's unit. The big old man himself wasn't there, but a younger man with a bow in his hand was pointing at her again.

- There was no escape for you.- He said and fired again, but Rui pulled the chain in front of her and cut the arriving arrow pieces. The archer was surprised, and at the same time realized that the self-imposed attack would not be successful as he hoped, mostly because of the soldiers already formed a strong defense line.

- Let's go out of here. He said and turned away, and the Qin soldiers were just watching what the hell happened.

Later, Ren Pa's camp

-So ... you arrow tears apart a young girl with a black chain?- the old man asked, scratching his beard. Rin Ko just whistled.

- Quite a warrior, isn't she?

- No - Kyou En intervenes - this girl can't fight properly. She was just lucky.

- It was more than luck. - says the big general looking at the sky - that weapon ...
