A/N: Hey Guys! Sorry that it's been a while since I updated, I'm not too good at getting things done 😅. Anyway, I've noticed that some of you want to be with BJ more than Lydia so I thought of something. I could make a separate story (or few chapters) that would be an alternative to the ending I'm planning? That way people who want to be with BJ can. What do you think?
P.S. There's some cursing in this chapter!
Anyways, on with the story!

Previously:
If I got into the musical, I'd be under shimmery lights and heavy makeup. I'd stand out amongst those I normally wouldn't because I would no longer be (Y/N). I'd be someone cooler, and more interesting. Someone who people aspire to be. I'd be a character that people finally saw.
I'd be visible.

"(Y/N)!! I'm so nervous.. what if I didn't get the part?!" Lydia had been worrying for nearly an hour now, and it was getting harder for BJ and I to reassure her. It had been almost a week since we auditioned, as it was currently Saturday, and the roles were said to be posted at 2:30 PM. Sadly, every minute felt like it's own hour.
"Listen Lyds, I'm nervous too! We all know you would've gotten every role you auditioned for if it was possible! I'm not so sure about me.." I wasn't trying to host a pity party, but I honestly didn't see why she was so scared. Not casting Lydia would be a mistake on Ms.Livingston's part.
"Yeah, I guess! But what if there were better students? Our school has like a million people you know!" Lydia looked flushed and was wildly gesturing with her hands.
"Lyds, I don't think that's ri-"
"GUYS CHILL!" BJ cut us off. "You're both just nervous for absolutely nothing. It's obvious you both got in because no one else is going to audition for a stupid history musical."
There was silence, then a small ding from Lydia's phone. The clock had reached 2:30.
"(Y/N), THE ROLES ARE UP HOLY JESUS ON A CRACKER."
"Kid, what does that even-"
I jumped off Lydia's bed and nearly toppled over BJ.
"OOO, PULL EM UP. PULL EM UP!"
She entered her passcode and logged onto the official school website. There, a large list was posted with various names and roles to accompany them. Scanning my eyes across it, I nearly lost hope till I landed on the last two names:Lydia Deetz as Alexander Hamilton
(Y/N) (L/N) as Elizabeth Schuyler
.....
Well fuck.
////
"BJ stop laughing, it's not funny!" He wiped an invisible tear from his eye.
"YES IT IS! AHAHAH YOU GUYS ARE GETTING MARRIED IN A DAMN MUSICAL! BET YOU WISH IT WAS THE REAL THING DIDN'T YOU?! PFFT-"
I slapped him with a pillow. I appreciated BJ, really, but I couldn't wrap my head around all this with him nagging at me.
"Beetlejuice, please. I'm trying to think."
"You better be thinking about your vows." He smirked at me and wiggled his eyebrows.
"I don't even-"
"Hey, if you're Eliza.." Lydia interrupted. "whose Maria?" I shrugged waiting for her to pull the list back up. "Ew, it says Alaina Louise as Peggy and Maria. I don't want to cheat on you with her."
Alaina was some popular chick at our school who never missed the chance to act older than she was. The idea that she would try out for a seductive adulteress didn't surprise me. Lyds chuckled and casted me a cheeky smile. I forced one back, I didn't want that either. This theatre stuff was starting to hurt my head and I was ready for a switch in conversation. After plopping down on the floor next to BJ, I rested my head on his shoulder and sighed.
"Hey, lets put musicals aside for now. I wanna talk about you, BJ."
"Uh..me?"
"Yeah, him?" Lydia raised an eyebrow and joined us on the floor. I nodded.
"Mhm. It's not everyday you meet a witty ghost offering to scare off your parents. Tell me about yourself."
Beetlejuice seemed unsure as he bounced his leg up and down. I tried to ignore the intense glare Lydia was giving me and push through the conversation. If I was really gonna follow through with this deal, I needed to know more about him and what I would be getting myself into.
"What do you want to know?"
I thought for a moment. "Is your name really Beetlejuice? Like, it's cool and all, just...different."
"Oh, well," He fixated his gaze on the far end of the room, avoiding eye contact.
"that's my middle name. You know, like after the star? My first name's actually Lawrence."
Lawrence. Woah. For some reason, calling him by a normal name felt awkward now. I had gotten so used to 'Beetlejuice' that I really didn't consider anything else.
"My middle name's spelled differently than how I get others to remember it though..but I can never recall how it's supposed to be."
"Interesting, can I call you Lawrence then? Just...occasionally?" I looked at him with pleading eyes and he sighed in response.
"If you want to kid." Lydia scoffed in reply. I ignored her.
"Awesome! Now, what cool demon stuff can you do?"
Lawrence smiled and placed a hand on my shoulder. Suddenly, I wasn't controlling myself anymore.
"This is called possession. It lets me speak through anyone I want and I can control their actions aswell. For example, I could make you kiss Lydia since I know you're too scared too~" I felt my body lurch forward and stop right before her face.
"But.." He let go of my shoulder and started talking through himself again. "I would never."
Lydia's face turned crimson as she tried to catch her breath.
"So, you're telling me that you can make anyone do or say whatever you want?" Lydia looked at BJ skeptically.
"Technically, yes. I don't do it often though."
"Why don't you just force me to say your name then? Wouldn't that work too?"
Lawrence looked sort of puzzled at that one, but there's no way I was gonna accept that he hadn't thought about it before. Part of me hoped that he was just nice like that.
"If I make you say it, you're not really accepting the deal are you? I think it'd only work if you agree out of free will." I nodded and closed my eyes. There was one question I was extremely curious about, but it probably wasn't the right time. Then again, I didn't think it'd ever be. I opened my eyes, sighed, and let the words fall out.
"Lawrence?"
"Yeah?"
"How'd you die?"There was a bit of silence, then a voice sounded from my right.
"(Y/N/N) I think that's a bit much.."
"Sorry..I was just curious."
"Hey, that's alright." BJ turned towards me and looked me dead in the eye. He seemed sad, maybe even regretful. I didn't like seeing him without that sly smile he always wore. "I don't mind telling you, I'm just not proud of it." He took a deep breath and continued.
"When I was alive, I lived with my mom. I was an only child, and my dad had left when I was about eight. I guess I was sort of a rebel kid, always dying my hair without permission-dumb things like that," He chuckled. "but my mom hated me for it."
"No one at school really noticed me, and teachers almost always forgot my name. I was...invisible."
Lydia glanced up. We both knew the feeling BJ was describing.
"One day, I got into a fight with my mom about college and I was getting tired of having to argue with her. I was tired of everything. I wrote her a small note and climed onto the roof when she was asleep. There, I jumped without anyone to stop me." I noticed his eyes start to glisten.
"So you..."
"Committed suicide?" He finished. "Yeah. I wish I hadn't." His voice cracked at the end of the sentence and eventually he was crying. I wrapped my arms around him tightly.
"Lawrence, I'm so sorry.."
He choked through his words. "S-shouldn't be sorry for something that can't be changed, right?"
Lydia gave me a look of sympathy, though she should've been giving it to BJ, and attempted to calm him down by patting his back. I wanted to give him hope, tell him that I would accept his deal and everything would be fine. But I couldn't make empty promises like that.
No matter what, no one can revive the dead.
