"In love, you say?" Mrs. Reed lips tilted up in the smallest show of amusement."Yes, in love." Eden confirmed with a nod.
"How long have you known the girl? Or boy?" Mrs. Reed was an open-minded woman, afterall.
"I've known her," Eden emphasized with a scowl. "For two days. Kinda."
"And where'd you meet her?" She kept her judgement to herself, knowing all too well how he could argue and fuss for hours on end.
"Well, I was in Wal-Mart, an-"
"Of course you were," His mother muttered, evoking a frown from her son.
"And exactly what is that supposed to mean?" He demanded.
"That you're always in Wal-Mart. Always." She clarified.
Sinking back into his seat in defeat, he grinned sheepishly. "They have the best low prices, though," He stuck his tongue out at her childishly. "Back to the point, we met in Wal-Mart, on the chip aisle, and I kind of bumped into her, and she fell, and I helped her up, and she was really awkward and then I think cupid shot me in the ass because I fell for her right then and there before I even grabbed my chips." He rushed all in one breath, inhaling deeply before picking up his mug again, waiting impatiently for his mothers response.
"Well?" He demanded after a good 20 seconds of silence.
"Well?" She repeated, more as a question, though.
"Tell me."
"Tell you what?"
"What you're thinking."
Pursing her lips, she emptied her glass, settling it back onto its coaster. "Have you even had a real conversation with the girl yet?"
"Yeah, actually. Today." He smiled. "She's so.. Weird. Oh my god mom, her sarcasm rivals mine. I didn't even think that was possible! And she's short. She's so short. 5'3 at the very most. You wouldn't expect such a timid looking girl to have her personality." Eden raved.
"You seem quite infactuated with this girl, Ed," His mother eyed him with a knowing smile.
"Some call it an infactuation, I call it love." He replied simply. With a shake of her head, Mrs. Reed stood.
"Now go move your sneakers from by the door - someone is going to trip over them. And wash up so we can start dinner." She patted his arm.
"Yes ma'am!" He saluted mockingly, before dashing off up stairs, leaving the worn converse at the door.
