Chapter 2: The Turning Point

I entered our kitchen. Alice is there preparing her best apple pie ever. She is covering it with aluminium foil when I approached her. I walked toward her silently while she was busy doing her thing. Then I covered her eyes with my right hand. "I got a surprise for you." I said as I took a small rectangular box out of my pocket with my other hand. I put the rectangular box in front of her and removed my hand from her face.

She saw the small rectangular box lying on her covered pie. "What is this, Leander?"

"Open it!" I told her then she took it from the pie and opened it.

"Gosh! Honey, this is so expensive!" she said as she pulls out the silver necklace from the box. "How did you know?"

"I saw you at the mall when I had a meeting with a client last week. You were looking at it on the display for five minutes, I guess? I did not tell you because I want to surprise you." I took the necklace from her hand and put it around her neck as she lifts her hair up. The silver necklace has a key pendant with some little diamond on its handle.

"But, this is so expensive. How did you afford this?"

"Well, I, your loving husband, just got promoted from being an associate V.P. for Marketing to the new V.P. for Marketing!"

"Is it for real?"

"Yeah. That is why we are going to celebrate tonight!"

"Tonight? Have you forgotten? It is our dinner with Mama and Papa."

"Oh, gosh! I almost forgot." I ran out of the kitchen.

"I wrote it on your planner last week and noted it in a memo on your phone."

"I'm missing my planner, honey, and my phone's just inside my bag for the whole day." I explained as I walk up in the stairs to our room.

"Just go and fix yourself because it's already six thirty pm." Alice shouted from the kitchen.

As she said, I fixed myself. I took a bath, brush my teeth and wore my white polo and a V-neck sweater over it. I wore my black pants and my leather shoes. When I'm done, I took the car key from the pants that I was wearing before I took a bath.

I sat on the driver's seat of the car then started it. When she went out of the house wearing a white beautiful dress and the necklace that I gave her holding the plastic container with apple pies inside, I stepped out of the car and opened the door on the other side. She sat on the front seat beside me and put the plastic container on the back seat.

Before we head to her parents' house, we stopped over on a gasoline station. I full the tank then sit back on the car. The moment I closed the door, Alice faced me with bothered look. I looked at her. She's breathing hesitantly.

"Is there a problem?" I asked.

"Look, Lean. I have to tell you something." She told me and held my hand. Her look on me is like watching my reaction on my face. "I planned to tell this to you later during the diner but I felt like I have to say it now."

"Say it. You're making me nervous."

"First, I want you to turn off the car and put your seatbelt on." she said.

So, I did. I turn the car off and put my seatbelt on. I just told myself that whatever it is she's going to tell me, I should prepare myself. I breathed deeply and faced her. "Now, say it."

"Lean, I already have someone..." my heart beat so fast, she paused for a moment and took some air then closed her eyes and said, "... inside me."

"What do you mean 'inside you'?" I asked with my voice shaking and made a little giggle saying the next sentences. "Are you possessed? Are you pregnant? Tell me clearly." I'm getting pissed off because she makes me feel anxious but that was funny.
