Sandpaper. The closest resemblance you could find to what your throat felt like. Parched and itchy.
Your eyes felt fuzzy, almost as if someone had vigorously rubbed wool over them. Rainbow coloured worms sprang into your periphery each time you moved your eyeballs.
"She's up." Your ears seemed to be working in perfect order. They picked up a voice which seared through your veins like hot coal. You had heard it before. In fact, it was the voice you had heard in your last moments of consciousness.
It was all coming back now. You had been at the store. There had been a man — well-built, easily over 6 ft. Blond hair cropped out from under his hat. His blue eyes watched you closely.
The man followed you from aisle to aisle unapologetically, seemingly uncaring of any and all consequences. You had saved countless helpless people from such distasteful circumstances, surely you could save yourself on this one occasion.
Tears spilled out like a broken barrage. The man furiously rubbed his eyes, his vision must have been blurred. That was all proper, of course, for you had vaporized the water lubricating his corneas. It hadn't even required any physical movement, that was the level of prowess you had regarding your hydrokinetic abilities.
"Target affirmative." He had said. A smaller man had come up behind you then, armed with what seemed like some sort of a stun gun but functioned like an open DC outlet. Those were the last moments of wakefulness you had known. Until now.
"Okay, she is not going to be up and about for a while. We should call a meeting, tell the team we got her." The smaller man said. You would go on to recognise both men that stood before you. At the moment, however, your mind was still repairing itself and the only priority it identified was self-preservation. "Can one of you stay with me?"
Playing the scared girl almost always worked. In truth, you were only seeking leverage, should anything happen against your favour, which it unequivocally seemed like it would. Be that as it may, you recoiled when the tall blond stepped forward.
"Not you. Can I have that one?" You leaned sideways to glance at the shorter, dark-haired man with the fancy goatee, "You kinda look like you want to peel my my face off." That much was the truth, unadulterated by ulterior motive of any kind.
The two men fell into a hushed debate post which the tall blond — Steve Rogers! You finally had a name to go with the face — stomped outside. You could only assume that was his default state of mind. The other man dropped down onto a chair next to the bed you laid on, tossing a blanket which you promptly tossed back to him. "Tony, you clearly need this more than I do. You look like you're going to die."
"I did not realise we were on a first name basis." Instead of balling up the blanket and throwing it back to you, this time around Tony wrapped it around your shoulders before sitting back down. You conceded reluctantly. "Fine, I'll take this. There are other ways I could warm you up."
Tony's neck turned toward you with such velocity, it was nothing short of a miracle that the ligaments didn't tear off. His wide eyes forced realisation into you and your face flushed. "Okay, I just heard how that came out and no. What I meant was 60 percent of your body is water. I could just, you know, heat it up."
"And not kill me in the process? I find that really hard to believe seeing as we just knocked you out and carried you to the middle of nowhere." Tony's voice faltered for the first time and you took full advantage of the fact. "I don't need your consent to kill you. I could kill you right now if I so choose. Besides, you can tell me all about why the Avengers kidnapped me while I effectively save your life."
Tony sighed in contentment as you worked your magic, without having to move an inch from your position. "You are different, you know that right? That is how you appeared on our radar. But you don't use your powers a whole lot, that made it trickier for us."
