"TaeTae, come here please." I interrupt his play of action figures. He instantly stops and skips over, propping himself on the couch beside me.

"TaeTae, why did you follow that bad lady to her car yesterday?"

He fiddles with his fingers and looks around with a shy pout.

"All my friends have grandma's who bake cookies and knit them sweaters... I wanted one too."

I exhale through my nose and hold his cheek.

"Tae, you don't need a grandma. You have mommy, daddy, and the most amazing aunties and uncles here to protect you. Plus, who's better at baking cookies than your daddy, hm? ...I'm sorry for yelling at you. But I need you to promise that you'll never do that again, okay? It's very dangerous."

"I'm sorry mommy."

"It's okay baby." I pinch his cheek playfully. "Which leads me to why I called you. Taesoo, you come too." I call over our daughter who plays with her dolls obliviously. Once both kids are sitting before me, I land a hand on both laps.

"Kids, Mommy and Daddy have done some... unique things before you were born, and people might tell you that mommy and daddy are bad people but—"

"What did you do mommy?"

"Uh..." A gradual gulp works it's way down my throat, trying to find the right words.

"I... Hurt someone baby. Really bad. But he was a very bad man who tried to hurt us. I did it for our family but sadly not everybody understands that. You're gonna meet other kids who tell you their mommies and daddies have heard different, but those rumors aren't true. It's not nice to hurt people, but your father and I... We just love you angels so much. And we'd do anything to protect you. I want you to know that. Okay?"

I wait for their innocent little nods before a wave of relief washes over me.

After hearing what my mother said, I won't allow strangers to convince my children that Taehyung and I are cold killers. Our kids look up to us, and I want them to know the importance of honesty. So if anyone's gonna tell them, they'll hear it from home first.

"Come here." I open two arms and let them curl up under them before kissing their foreheads. "I love you two so much."

"We love you too mommy."

"Forever and ever?"

Taesoo nods, "Foweber and eber and eber."

"This much?" I space my hands slightly apart. Taesun shakes his head adorably, making me spread them a little more. "This much?"

Taesoo bites her finger adorably before spreading my arms all the way. I laugh once more and use the position to hug them aggressively, getting serenaded by their squeaky giggles.

Removing my apron, I proudly take a whiff of the steaming hot-Christmas turkey I'd just cooked. Or at least attempted.

Since the others are spending time with their families, I thought I'd surprise Taehyung with Christmas dinner when he came home. I've been working on it all day...
