I shook awake to the blaring sound of my alarm. What an awful thing that is. Today is my first day at a new high school, new environment. And I'm not prepared. I stretch out my arm, squinting at the bright light my phone was causing. I turned it off, rolled to my side not wanting to move. The high pitch squeaking, the door being pushed open, told me it was my mother.
"Sam, come on get up. No slacking this year,"-She said croakily, also just woken up. She shook me gently. "Sam please get up and ready, you might actually like this new school". I groaned at the idea, "I don't wanna"- I complain. She sighed, rubbed my back soothingly and left me so I could get ready. I push the blankets off, I turn to the door that led to my bathroom, deciding to take a shower.
I step in feeling the hot water run down my back, steam floated through the bathroom, fogging everything. I sigh happily, feeling relaxed. This was the calm before the storm. I'm going to a new high school, going into junior year actually. And why did I come to this high school so late you ask. I was homeschooled for a while, but it got boring and I had no friends other than family. So I went back to public school, I knew my first experience wasn't good but I thought I'd give it a go anyway. Going back was awful. Rumours spread but I never talked to anyone. So I don't know who started it or why. But enough was enough, so I moved on.
Those memories going through my head just made me feel hesitant. Am I doing the right thing? Should I just go back to homeschooling again and get over it. I was beginning to doubt going back. But I step out of the shower, putting the clothes on my mum left me. My mum has always been there, yeah.. my dads great. But when I was going through all of this his response was as 'it's your life, you fix it' or 'not my problem'. But she would help, she was the one that made the move to let me move schools. She sat down and listened, i guess you could say she's my best friend.
It was currently 8:03.A.M, school started at 8:30. My mother being the kind person she is, made me breakfast which I scoffed down. I put my backpack on and left.

I entered the school gates, seeing the taller and muscular boys made me feel a little insecure. I walk with my head down, going to the office quickly, in hopes to avoid conversations. I walk up to the office lady, "hi, I'm Sam Golbach, I'm here to pick up my time table"-I tell the lady. She quickly hands me it, telling me to scurry off and she was 'far too busy at the moment' for christ sake she was slurping on coffee when I walked in. This year, is going to be insane.
I had science first, something I was not bad in. Name tags were placed on benches around the room, telling us where we are sitting for the rest of the year. I found next to mine, the name Colby. I chuckle, like cheese. I sit down grabbing my things, the bell rings and kids fill the classroom. I noticed a brunette sat next to me. He turned to look at me and smiled "Hi there! Your.. Sam the new kid, it's nice to meet you"-He smiled, "nice to meet you too"-I smile back. Him returning the smile gave me hope for the rest of the day. I turn my attention back to the teacher. I guess the office lady woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
The bell rang, but I stay seated waiting for kids since I don't want to be pushed around. Colby also stayed seated, "uh-um what do you have?"- He asked curiously. "I have history"-I smile, he nods, "shame we aren't in same class. I'll see you around". I nod leaving and grabbing my bag, exiting the room.
So far so good.
