4: Brennen's puppets

Colby's POV

12:25.P.M

A low muffled groan escapes my lips, wishing the clock could go just a little faster. My elbows resting on the desk and head in my hands bored out of my mind sitting in English. It's almost like that clock is on a slow mo settings. I'm currently in my fourth class of the day, I haven't seen Sam because of our different classes. I had five minutes left and then I can see Sam. He messaged me beginning of the day to meet at lunch, which of course I didn't deny. it's going to be difficult to leave Sam, I've started to get very attracted to Sam, my inner vampire just wanting to be with him. But there's a dark past Sam told me this morning.

Yes Sam left public school because of bullying, but obviously bullying happens for stupid reason and is started for reasons that only sometimes can be controlled, in Sam's case they weren't. Sam told me he was once in a relationship with a guy, who he loved and he thought the guy loved him, but it was all a game. Sam told him everything, from funny to embarrassing. He even took advantage of Sam also taking his virginity. Only to dump him three days later. His ex William, used his stories against him, while he was dating Sam he secretly had a girlfriend. She was the most popular in school and the rumours spread fast.

My heart shattered when I heard this. But also gave me hope. But Sam is going to have to trust me before I can even try.

That whole scenario Sam went through was stuck in my head all day. Just staring at the whiteboard, pen tapping on my desk and the slow clock, made it seem like time wasn't changing. But I jump from the sudden sound of the school bell that releases us to lunch.

I quickly shove my school things into my backpack, doing a double check if I have everything, once I do I start to walk out of class and pull out my phone to message Sam I'm on my way.

I walked out of the building outside to where Sam and I's rendezvous was. Once I turn the corner, I see Brennen's two friends who I call, Brennen's puppets holding Sam against the gym wall. But I notice something off, I look into one persons eyes, I notice their eyes are glowing a bright red, it's Daniel. I never liked him.

I notice he starts to lean towards Sam's neck, I see his nose flare up which meant he was sniffing Sam, vampires do this to see if they smell like another vampire or human. The sniff made me uncomfortable, it made Sam uncomfortable. He couldn't do anything his hands were pinned at his side and he had two guys staring him down. He just froze under their gazes. You may be wondering why I'm waiting to see what happens, I just need to figure out what Daniel is.

Daniel opens his mouth slightly and I notice his vampire teeth clearly visible, before he can lean forward I was already walking towards him.

"Hey!"-I said gaining their attention, they all turn to look at me, discomfort and shame written all over Sam's face. This pained me, he feels weak because he couldn't do anything.

"Come on off you pop, go back to Brennen and leave him alone,"-I said walking up to them and rip Daniels hands off Sam's wrists, pulling Sam towards me. I pull Sam a little into my side and I can feel him tremble in fear, linking his arm with mine to hold himself up and to feel safer. He's been bullied so bad and been through it all he's probably traumatised, poor baby. Wow I just thought that, thinking that felt honestly amazing.

"Tell Brennen, I've warned him once and I can do it again, leave Sam alone and go do something more productive then ruining some kids self esteem and to stop sending you two on missions"-I said flashing my red eyes, I notice Brennen's other puppet, Matthew's eyes widen and he leaves. He never did anything.

"Colby I know we don't get along, but why are you helping him, your going to lose your popularity if you do"-Daniel scoffed.

"Popularity means nothing to me, I don't care about it, once high school is over 'popularity' will not matter. I don't care what you say, I hang out with whoever I want it's none of your business,"-I said lightly pushing Sam behind me stepping forward to Daniel.

I grip onto Daniels shirt collar and pull him very close to my face, to the point that I can smell his breath. "Leave him alone, you'll regret it"-Colby scolded.

"I know your secret, you can't keep it forever, especially since it's dangerous for your precious blonde, I know we're the same and I'm very manipulative"-Daniel said.

I don't say anything and flash my eyes to black, it doesn't happen with a lot of vampires, it's a sign of leadership and for others to stand down. Daniels eyes flickered to mine, his eyes widened and turn to his natural hazel colour.

"Your a monster, your gonna hurt him,"-Daniel said, grabbing Colby's hand to rip his hands off his collar, he does so and walks away.

Colby turns on his heels to see Sam, standing there head in hands, I walk closer to him and grab the bottom of his chin. His eyes are bloodshot.

"Hey it's okay, your okay, I'm okay"-I said softly, stepping towards him and bringing him into my embrace, which he happily excepts and returns it. I tightly wrap my arms around his waist and rub his back soothingly, hearing the cries in my ear. These bastards will pay.

He pulled away, not far just a little in front of my face. "I'm so stupid and weak, I let their words get the best of me, I'm physically and mentally not even capable of telling people to stop. And you keep coming to my rescue,"-Sam said, tears beginning to fall again.

"Sam, your not weak, in fact your brave for staring them in the eyes, no one does that. Everything's going to be ok, I'll protect you"-I said.

"That's the thing. Colby, why do you help me, why are you friends with me?"-Sam asks.

Oh yeah I just have a massive crush on you and you don't know!

"Because, I was once like you, bullied everyday, no friends, teachers weren't supportive, my mother is an alcoholic, all the fights my mum and dad had caused them to get a divorce. Mum was trying to convince me it was my fault, it was such an awful thing for a eleven year old to deal with. And plus I like you Sam, your funny, smart, cute and I love hanging out with you and seeing the side many don't see,"-I smiled. I had a thought in the back of my head, so I just went with it.

I slowly lean to Sam's cheek, I gently and quickly peck his pale cheeks, that started to flush pink.

"I'll be here with you through all your ups and downs"-I smile.

"Me too"-He smiled, the bell interrupted us.

"I'll see you tomorrow, message me when your home,"-Sam said, stepping back with a smile, his eyes no longer bloodshot.

I nod and smile. When Sam and I hugged, I smelt his scent, it made my knees weak. He kind of smelt like, vanilla and a little like pine trees. I found the combo a little odd. But I absolutely loved the smell on Sam. And it was getting more and more difficult to not want to bite him. I can do so without turning him, it's just a way to claim your soulmate.

And that's what Sam is, my soulmate.
