“Mom? What are you doing here?” I ask, as I get home, my house is a model house with four floors, well five if counting the basement, six if counting the attic, I guess. My mother, usually at work until 9:00, is in the kitchen baking… Are those cookies? Gulp. I think of Malex.
“Oh hello Honey. You’re home early.” She smiles sweetly.
“Yeah, I didn’t have to say after school today.”
“Well, I got a day off. Luckily.” She gives me a wink, her fake eyelashes flutter.
“Okay, that’s great, Mom. I have to go shop for homecoming accessories with Alicia and Malex, I’m going to go get ready.”
“Oh have fun, Vanessie!” I grimace. My mother called me that as a little kid, but… Yippy also called me that, just this morning.
“Uh thanks Mom.” I say, grab my Adidas Backpack and purse, and I run upstairs. I plan to run right into my room, but instead I run right into my older brother. He’s towering over me, so when I see him, it’s too late, my head collides with his chest.
“Ow! Sis, watch it! Why are you in a rush?” He complains.
“Well, I didn’t expect you to be standing in the hallway like an idiot, Zolton.” I roll my eyes. Zolton brushes his blond bangs away from his eyes.
“You did that, just yesterday.”
“Yeah whatever, you’re a liar.” I say, and I run to my room, only to collide with the wall, my chin banged right on it,. “Ow!” I shout in pain. Suddenly, I hear Zolton giggling.
“Oh Vanessa, nice going.” He laughs. I turn around giving him a death glare. I open my mouth to yell at him- “Don’t tell me you didn’t expect a wall to be standing here like an idiot. If it were moving around, you would be in big trouble, trust me.”

“Cute!” Alicia squeals, as she picks up a glittery magenta dress, it goes down to her thighs, above her knees, with fluffy pink satin finishing it.
“I don’t know what I may buy, all these dresses are beautiful, especially on me.” I say, holding a bright yellow one up. So stylish. It’s floorlengh. I pick up another yellow one, short and poofing out, amazing. I love Macy’s, everything is basically amazing here. I'm as beautiful as those sexy mannequins.
“Well, I’m buying this one. Drew says I look great in pink!” Alicia cries.
“Well, I don’t have a date, don’t need one. What dress should I pick?” Malex asks as she emerges from the huge rack of homecoming dresses. She knocks down one rack and the entire thing falls over. It’s about to hit Alicia square in the face, and Alicia is still admiring her dress.
“Alicia! Heads up!” I cry. Alicia shrieks as the rack almost smacks her. She sprints away.
“It’s okay, they’ll pick it up.” Malex says, brushing off.
“Wanna, leave this section, then? Alicia, you can go pay now-”
“Young Man!” An angry cashier storms over to Malex. Her name tag reads: Hi, my name is Carol. May I help you? “I just saw you knock that down! Pick it up, right now!”
“Hey!-” Malex starts.
“Is this your boyfriend?” The angry cashier turns to me. I look at the ground.
“Hey! It’s young lady! I’ll get my daddy to fire you, if you don’t correct that right now!” Malex retorts. The cashier squints, and looks her up and down.
