Dragonborns, according to Middle-Earth lore, were dragon-human hybrids that occurred when a dragon (shifted into a humanlike form with brass-colored reptilian eyes) seduced an unsuspecting human, and there was an offspring, hence the term 'dragonborn.'
This was one of the only things about the exceedingly rare and legendary species all others agreed upon. Elves, dwarves, hobbits, humans- they all had different views, different tales, different ideas of the supposedly mythical race. That might be why they seemed so mythical.
Overall, most believed dragonborns were a cunning, cruel group. To be half dragon was to be exiled, shunned from all communities. It was the most terrible curse at all, to be feared- just because of your birth! Until one day...
