James led us through the stone archway that had 'Camp HalfBlood' engraved it in across the top. I gazed around, attempting to take in the whole set up. It looked pretty much like a normal camp complete with twelve cabins in a U formation, a pavilion type building towards the side, and a huge house towards the bottom of it all. The only item that appeared not normal at all was the arena type thing with a lava rock wall and some dangerous contraption in the middle. I gulped, hoping Kate and I wouldn't have to complete such a treacherous activity.
James spread his arms out, gesturing to the whole camp, "Here's your new home for the remainder of the summer and possibly all year! I guess I'll have to give you your tour...Gods I hate newbies. Oh, hey, Faith!" He called out a girl with mid-length dark hair and electric blue eyes who was walking towards the pavilion structure. She wore a bright orange shirt with Camp HalfBlood printed on the front in blue letters. Kate shot him a glare. Her hatred for him already was quite amusing.
Faith turned to look at us, a note of confusion in her eyes as she walked over, "Welcome to Camp HalfBlood," she told us with a smirk then directed her attention to James, "what do you want, James?" She inquired with a sigh, obviously sick of this James guy. To be completely honest, he was a cocky jerk and I've only known him for an hour.
"Can you give Kate and Cat here their tour?"
"And you're incapable of doing it yourself because..." I'm starting to like Faith.
"Okay, okay," Kate butted in, "I don't really care who gives us a tour. But can someone please explain this whole greek-myths-are-real thing again? I couldn't really process it in the ride over after just being attacked like five seconds ago."
"Did James save you?" Faith questioned, a friendly smile on her lips.
"Yeah." I answered, glancing at James. He wore a smug expression, clearly pleased with himself.
"Okay, so, basically every once in awhile a God comes down and has a kid with a human. This makes a demigod such as myself, James, and you guys. I'm the daughter of Poseidon. The Big Three-Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades-rarely have kids due to their offspring being extremely powerful. However, they have been doing so often lately since Camp HalfBlood and the Greek world have been at peace for, well, twenty five years. So like every thirty years the Big Three have kids. Anyways, we don't know your Godly parent yet. They have to claim to you. Usually it happens in days, hours, or weeks. It varies. So for now, you'll be staying in Hermes cabin," Faith pointed to a wooden cabin at the bottom of the U, "but we'll get to that later. Now, we will give you both a tour. Yes, that means you, James." She shot him a look.
Kate rolled her eyes, probably at being with James for more time. I blinked, trying my best to comprehend this. The idea of being anything more than human made my stomach churn. I've always been interested in Greek Mythology and was one of the best in my grade to understand the many concepts. But whose my mom? It's obviously not one of the Big Three since I already have my dad. But what does Faith mean by "at peace?" Did a war or something happen? All these questions and more raced through my mind as we started for the cabins. This was too much to take in.
"There's my cabin," James pointed to the biggest one of all of them. It was pure white marble with golden trim around certain sections. It looked cold and lonely compared to the beautiful ocean themed one with fishnets and shells beside it. Despite the unwelcoming feel of it, James beamed at what probably was his home, "it's sweet, I know. My father's the King of the Gods." He boasted.
Faith and Kate rolled their eyes in unison, "We know." Faith stated.
Along the way, they both took turns naming who the cabins belonged to. They all were designed to match the God they represented, the decor never the same. We passed a few campers on our stroll, each one wearing the orange camp shirt. I guess it was just easier to move around in. Some of them carried weapons on their sides while others wore armor. This was so weird.
