"The house?" Jamie repeated in disbelief. "Vampires exist and you want to know about the house they inhabit not them?"
"Yes."
Jamie looked as if he was having a hard time processing the idea of caring about a house instead of the original family of Draculas. The group on the other hand all hid their smiles and stifled their laughs behind their hands.
This house could be just the things to help her get out of her creative slump. She had received her assignment just a couple weeks ago. It was to design a house that would eventually keep developing and developing until the end of the year. And the best house would get picked to be developed into a tiny home to be auctioned for tuition money next year.
Silvia really wanted to win the prize. Well she needed to win the prize. Being from a family of 7 money was always scarce and stretched thin among her and her 4 other siblings. She had worked all of senior year at a gas station after school trying to get as much money as she could to go to college. She had missed homecoming and her prom for the sake of earring extra hours. Her commitment to working was why her ex boyfriend broke up with her. He said that she didn't have enough time for him and wasn't committed to their relationship. It was easy for him to complain because he came from money, his parents practically owned the town. He had said that she could just ask him for the money he'd be happy to help, but her pride wouldn't let her do it. Her father was a self made man and would probably die if he heard his daughter was taking handouts. Plus she wouldn't do it either it could make her feel like he was a benefactor to her charity instead of a boyfriend.
She shook herself out of her thoughts to engage herself back in the conversation. "So what do you know about the house."
Jamie was still sulking and responded in a rather dry voice as compared to how he sounded before. "Not much." He shrugged sitting back in his chair muttering. "No one has ever cared more about the house than the vampires." Silvia rolled her eyes.
"You're a liar Jamie." The guy that sat across from them spoke up
"I am not Brandon." Brandon gave him a look. He had flat top black hair that made him look as if he just stepped out of an 80's magazine. Even though it was already dark out he was still dressed in nice clothes, he looked as if he could have been a part of Bell Biv Devoe.
"Yes you are. Before she got out here you were telling us about the origins of the house and the inspiration. And how the vampire built it blah blah blah.." Brandon mimicked Jamie talking by opening and closing his hand.
"Shut up." He hissed.
"So you do know about the house?" Silvia smirked at him laying her head in her hands.
Jamie bit the inside of his cheek. "Technically yes." But he quickly interjected. "But only in how it's associated with the Draculas and where they came from. So if you wanna know about the house you need to hear about the vampires."
Silvia didn't really care about vampires nor did she believe in them. She didn't believe in anything supernatural she more practical, you didn't have time have your head in clouds when you care about getting through college and supporting your family.
Jamie has stuck his hand out waiting for a decision. Silvia took his hand and it a firm grip shook it. "Deal."
Jamie's face burst out a smile and he pushed back the sleeves of his sweatshirt up his arms. He turned his chair around so he was sitting in backwards. Lowering his voice so it was raspy and ominous he began his story. "Gather round children to learn about the origins of the vampire house that dwell in the big woods." Everyone played along and scooted closer, leaning in to hear his tale.
