"Mackenzie!"
I snapped out of my own head giving myself one last look in the mirror before heading downstairs to the rest of my family.
"We have to go now. School is starting in 30 minutes." My mom stated taking her keys from table which had unfinished breakfast on.
My mom is clearly one of those perfectionists. Either you're 30 minutes early or you're late, there's no in between. But that's Catherine Prescott for you.
"Mom. We live like 5 minutes away from school." I replied leaning against the wall.
"I know honey, but this is your first day. It's different." She smiled before giving a kiss to my dad and greeting my sisters, then leaving to the car, while I said goodbye to my family and joined her.
Many people say going to a new school is difficult, but this is my first time going to a new school. It wasn't always my plan to change schools, but because my parents insisted that I go to a bit more of an expensive school for a "better" education, here I am.
"Mackenzie!" I hear my mom yell at me as I lift my head from my hands.
"Sorry mom, I was just thinking." I apologize.
"This is the second time I had to shout your name out, it's a bad habit Kenzie." My mom adds while I start getting annoyed because she just won't let some things go.
"I'm sorry, okay?" I say to my mom, hoping she would just relax for once.
The car is filled with silence as I look down at my phone, scrolling through Instagram. Before I knew it, our black family Jeep came to a full stop and Queenston High was right in front of me. Outside of the car of course.
"Kenzie. I know you'll love it here, and I know you'll do well, now I want you to have an amazing day. I love you." My mom says before giving me a kiss on the cheek. "And don't forget, if you need anything, you know who's here." She says referring to my eldest sister, Rachel, who's about to graduate from high school and my second eldest sister, Olivia who's graduating next year.
"Yes and thank you." I smile at my mom before grabbing my lunch and closing the car door.
I wasn't that nervous, but that was because I was finally going to the same school as my childhood best friend (She moved to Queenston two years before me), which gave me a sense of relaxation, but I'd always be a bit nervous because I didn't know what was to come for me in the new school.
I take a deep breath and walk along the pebbled path, in the middle of 2 sides of huge grass patches with a few trees. I noticed that the school wasn't gated, which I found weird because I thought all expensive schools were gated.
I walk down the path towards about 20 steps that lead up to the entrance of the school. Before going up the steps, I look up and see a a big sign saying "Queenston High", then proceed to walk up the stairs and into the school building.
I quickly take in my surroundings of blue lockers and cream walls with posters of clubs and events on it. There were many kids lurking around, so I knew it would be difficult to find my best friend.
I slowly walked towards a bench, hoping nobody would stare me down when realizing I am new, but luckily no one did.
I sit down and take out my phone, which I was sure wasn't allowed, but I was alone and I didn't really feel like reading at all.
When looking up from my phone in hopes to see my best friend, I see a tall, fair guy with amazing sea green eyes and chocolate brown hair, wearing a white Champion hoodie with a simple black jeans and white Vans looking at me. I'm not going to lie, he was really attractive, like really attractive, but it would take a lot of me to talk to a guy.
