Chapter the Fifth

It was about five in the morning when Wade and Penny were woken up by loud knocking on their front door.

"Who the hell knocks on the door at five in the morning?" Wade grumbles getting up.

"Do you want me to go with you?"

"No, you have to be up in half an hour.  I'll get it."

"Thanks Wade..." Penny says drifting back off.

"Wow pregnancy really does take a toll on women!"

Wade hurriedly puts on boxers and a robe due to the fact that he sleeps naked and makes his way down stairs.  The person knocks again and this time Wade opens the door.

"What do you want?" Wade demands not looking at the person.

"You could have a better attitude and I have a new mission for you."

"Aw, come on Fury, you know I don't want to leave Penny.  Especially with how long my missions can be.  I don't want to come back and have a wife and a baby, I want to have my wife with the baby still in her."

"No one else can do the mission except you or Spiderman and since Spiderman isn't available we need Deadpool."

"How long is the mission going to take?"

"Two months max."

"Two months!  No way I'm not doing it!"

"If you don't do this many lives will be put in danger.  I'm sure your wife wouldn't want that to happen."

"Fine but I'm not agreeing to anything yet, I have to talk with her about it."

"If you decide not to do it, I'm sure the NYPD would love to find out who Spiderman is and prosecute her for being a vigilante.  We don't need that do we?  Meet on the Helicarrier tonight at 7 and don't be late or your wife will have to give birth in a jail cell."

Fury walks away and Wade slams the door furious at Fury's demand.  So what if innocent people died.  It's not like he cared, but to threaten putting his pregnant wife in jail that was crossing a line.  Especially because if Penny got put in jail he wouldn't be far to follow and their child doesn't need to be raised by the government or a complete stranger.  Their child was bound to be a freak like him or even have freaky powers like Penny.

That's when Wade knows he has to make a decision, so he wakes up Penny.  Even though she'd be a pain in the butt to wake up and she might be moody he knew it had to be done.

"Penny, I need you to wake up.  I need to tell you who was at the door.  Please wake up, it's important!"

"What?" Penny groans.

"Can we go downstairs so I can talk to you?  I'll even make breakfast."

"Fine, what time is it?"

"5:05."

"That's too early, let me sleep more."

"Penny this is important and if you don't wake up now, I'll call you in sick."

"No!  I have to go!" Penny says more awake.

"Then please wake up, we need to discuss some things."

"Carry me?"

"Of course, but you can't fall back asleep."

"Fine, you're still making breakfast, right?"

"Of course."

Wade easily carries Penny down the stairs and into the kitchen where he puts her on one of the chairs.  He then starts to make the food while also talking to Penny to make sure that she stays awake.  After about ten minutes he's done and he sets a plate of pancakes in front of Penny along with syrup and a glass of milk.

"Penny, I need to tell you something and I don't want you to get mad or anything."

"Okray, " Penny says with a mouth full.

"The person that was at the door was Nick Fury, the director of SHIELD.  Even though I told him not to give me missions for at least a year or longer, he has a mission for me and has told me that if I refuse to carry out the mission he'd put you in prison for being Spiderman."

Penny swallows, "Can he even do that?"

"He's going to try and even if he can't prove that you're Spiderman he'd find some other way.  I know that my missions take forever and because of them I've missed over half of our marriage and because of this one I might miss our baby's birth but I can't let Fury put you in jail!  Even if I can't be there for our baby most of the time he or she needs you."

Penny starts to cry.

"Oh Penny, please don't cry baby.  I love you so, so much and I'm so sorry.  If I wasn't a mercenary or have this stupid curse you'd never have to go through this. I'm so sorry Pen, I really am.  I love you and our baby so much and I'm sorry that I might miss that."

"Is it a solo mission or are you getting a partner?"

"I don't know yet, I don't know even know what I'm doing yet.  I won't be debriefed until tonight and by then I'll have to leave."

"Wade, just hold me.  Please, I need you and I love you too.  Just come back to me and soon because I might get a little stir crazy and come after you when the baby is born."

"No, don't do that, the baby needs you.  Even if they can't have their daddy they most certainly need their mommy."

"Just make sure you come back to us, okay?  I love you and so will our baby.  Remember, till death do us part."

"I remember babe and I'll try to be back before you can say tacos."

"I'll call in sick so we can spend the rest of the day together.  It shouldn't be too hard.  I love you so much Wade, just make sure that when you leave tonight that I'm awake."

"Don't worry babycakes I will."

"Wade, what are we going to do once the baby is born?  We're both heroes and New York needs vigilantes but our baby also needs us and we both know that sooner or later Harry will escape.  Harry obviously has bigger plans and him getting captured was a part of that plan.  He would have put up more of a fight."

"I know baby, I know.  Which is why I think you should spend the rest of your pregnancy with Matt while I'm gone.  I need someone to look after you and I can only trust him.  He's going to be the only one capable of keeping you safe."

"Wade, I'd be safer here.  At least here there's the panic room that I can hide away in.  We're the only two that know about it so it would be safe."

"Yes, but what if you can't make it to the safe room in time and no one is here to protect you?  Penny, I love you so much that I don't want anything to happen to you.  Call it selfishness but I need you, I need you more than air."

"I love you too, Wade.  I love you so much that words can't describe it.  If you're going to be gone for a while, I guess I'll drop your punishment because you'll be gone longer than a week."

"We can start when you're done eating."

"Maybe an hour or so, or else my stomach wouldn't be settled and it'd just end in me throwing up and not being in the mood."

"Until then though we can watch tv and maybe that'll allow the mood to set in."

"Sounds fine with me but you better come back to me in one piece after your mission!  I love you and if you make me raise our child alone, I'll bring you back and kill you myself."

"You've got yourself a deal, Mrs. Wilson!"

When Penny was eating they went into the living room and turned on the tv and Wade made sure to not turn on anything that would make her sad or else she definitely wouldn't be in the mood.
