Chapter 2.8:
The Locket
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.Maya knew exactly where she had to go and what she had to get.
Though, she couldn't exactly remember how to get there. But somehow, her feet carried her there without her mind having any influences on the lefts and rights she took.
Her fist raised up to the door and she hesitated before knocking on it. Minutes passed, and she was about to leave when the door opened, revealing an older man.
His eyes widened when he saw the woman, "M...Maya? Is it really you?"
"Hi, dad.." The woman awkwardly waved at the man she was once so close with.
The older man's eyes welled up with tears as he pulled her into a tight hug.
"I've missed you.. it's been so long.." He mumbled, pulling away and brushing hair out of her face. "It's been... how have you been? Where have you been? I haven't heard from you in.. in twenty years."
The man led her inside and sat her down on the couch, "Can I get you anything?"
Maya shook her head, "I'm okay."
The man shakily sat down on the chair near the loveseat she sat.
"Where have you been? What have you been doing? I-I can't believe you're really here.. Josh said something was wrong with you.. that you couldn't remember anything?"
"I've been in Chicago, I moved there and.. I love it." Maya sighed, running a hand through her hair. "It's really nice there, well, in the good part.."
He nodded, still taking in the fact that his daughter was back. "How have you been?"
"I've been good.. I mean, I could be better.. but.. you know.."
"Did you ever reconnect with that one girl... what was her name? Bethany? You guys were so in love.. you were so happy.."
"Beverly, dad." Maya couldn't help but smile at the name as she spoke it, "Her name is Beverly.."
"Beverly.. huh.." He hummed, "She was real nice, huh? Until she-"
"Dad.." Maya interrupted, shaking her head. "She did what she did for a good reason.. and it doesn't matter anymore."
"It matters to me-"
"Please, dad.."
The man nodded before changing the subject to his life, telling Maya how he'd been the past twenty years.
~~~
Maya's hand grazed the stairwell as she walked up the stairs. Pictures of her and Josh lined the wall, nothing had changed since she'd been there twenty years ago.
A picture of Josh in his high school graduation, Maya and Richie stood together with fake shocked faces.
A picture of Maya's high school graduation, Richie was in it too. School pictures, family pictures, any pictures with Maya or Josh in it.
