Continuing my long walk, I began to allow my thoughts to wander. Memories of my deceased foster sister flashed through my vision. Clenching a hand around my mouth, I desperately tried to stop the memories from showing themselves, but once they started, they wouldn't stop.
Through all the terror, one memory in particular caught my attention.
I heard the front door open, and my mother call me downstairs.
"Sarah! Come down here! There is someone here for you to meet!" the woman that had raised me yelled through the house. Of coarse, me being the obedient child I was, came flying down the stairs, only to come face to face with an adorable little girl. The female had long, blonde hair, much like my own, but her eyes shown with a vibrate jelly bean green color, unlike mine, that were a dark blue.
My mothers' hand was delicately laid oh her shoulder, in an attempt at calming the wide eyed girl. "This is Lindsey, your new sister." My mother softly explained, leaving me deathly confused.
"I thought babies were... well.... babies? Not toddlers" I questioned, looking at the shorter female, curiosity glazing over my blue orbs.
"Yes... well..." my mother started, taking a moment to plan out her next few words, "Remember how those people have been coming and doing house checks, and asking you a bunch of questions? " I nodded in agreement, remembering this weird old lady asking me questions like 'would you consider this a stable home?' and 'how many bedrooms are in your house'. "Well, that's because we are fostering Linsey until either someone else adopts her, or she grows of age to move out on her own." the woman explained, softly pushing the girl towards me.
After that, everything seemed to go back to normal. I could see clearly, and cars were going by as they should be. Looking around, I watched as a large black truck pulled up next to me, a male that looked to be my age climbing out and walking towards me.
"May I ask what you're doing out here, miss? We're miles away from civilization at this point, how did you even get out here without a car?" his thick voice rang out. Instinctively backing away, I softly called back,
"M....My boyfriend kicked me out of the car...", thinking of a quick lie to tell. Seeing his eyes soften, the male stopped moving towards me.
"Well, would you like me to give you a ride then?" He asked, motioning towards his truck. It seemed risky, getting into a car with an absolute stranger, but he seemed nice enough. Besides, what other choice do I have?
Slowly nearing the male, I made my way towards the passenger side, cautiously climbing into the truck, throwing my suitcase in the back seat.
