A smile spread across my face as I started to run. I didn't have any food or water in my body, I was running on pure adrenaline. Jacob running close behind me. I looked back to see if Landon was following and he was. I ran and ran feeling my heart just setting free. Jacob sped past me and I felt challenged. I ran trying to catch up to him. I ran faster and faster and stuck my hand out to grab Jacob's shirt and stumbled tripped grabbed him and we both fell. We reached absolutely nowhere. We could still look back and see the grand building, but the grass was too long for us to be seen.
I started to laugh and looked at Landon who was looking around.
"Guys, let's go please before Holmer realizes we're gone," Said Landon looking back.
"Easy Landoggy, all we needa do is roll down that lil' hill and we'll be completely out of sight. Look trees, nobody'll find us there, easy peasy," Jacob smirked at Landon. I lay on my side and literally rolled down the hill at a speed too high, higher than I'd expected and zoomed into a tree.
"Oh my god Iris are you alright?!" Landon knelt next to me. Boy was the wind knocked outta me, "of course I'm ok!" I coughed trying to get off of the ground by myself.
"I must've looked so retarded," I slapped a hand over my pink face and Jacob smirked, I looked at Landon who shrugged.
"You're fine," I turned my attention to Jacob who slowly wiped the smirk from his face.
"You looked stupid," He smiled. I shoved him as hard as I could and he stumbled into a tree and I started to laugh.
"Guys run!" I commanded grabbing Landon's shirt and running snatching Jacob's hand as well. We ran through the forest taking occasional breaks until it was darkness. I sat on a log rubbing my stomach, resting my back against the bark of a tree. My belly gurgled and the acid inside swirled around painfully.
The moon was huge in the sky, it looked like a block of cheese.The stars scattered around the sky like little balls of light. These balls of light started to turn yellow as they moved around me in small movements.
"What the hell?" I said to myself sitting up straighter. Fireflies fluttered around me. I couldn't hold back my smile as the number of fireflies increased.
I reached a hand out just to wave it at a firefly. I almost forgot the feeling of my stomach eating out it's own fat because the last thing I ate was bread and drank a glass of orange juice. I heard the crunching of grass nearing me and looked ahead.
The moonlight illuminated Landon perfectly. He stopped in his tracks as a smaller firefly pitched on my chest. I didn't bother it instead I just watched it. It walked around aimlessly before flying off again. Landon cleared his throat which brought me back to earth.
"I didn't find anything to eat," He sighed plopping down next to me.
"My dead ass," Said a voice from behind us.
I turned to see Jacob carrying things in his shirt. He was holding the bottom of the shirt up and whatever he was carrying was in a large number.
"Strawberries bitchesss," He sat down between Landon and I. "Bon appétit," He grinned at me before pushing a strawberry into his mouth.
"Are you sure those are strawberries?" Asked Landon pointing to Jacob. I reached over and took one out of Jacob's shirt. I couldn't see it as clearly as I normally would, but it felt like a strawberry. Jacob who had his mouth stuffed with strawberries looked at Landon.
"Starve," He said flatly as Landon threw a strawberry into his mouth. I put the strawberry in my mouth and watched as Jacob sharked down more strawberries.
"What if I eat a bug?" Said Landon putting another strawberry into his mouth.
"Extra nutrients!" Scoffed Jacob.
"What if I eat a spider?" I shook my head at him and he looked up at me from his shirt.
"You'll be Spiderman," He waved a hand in the air. I saw Landon roll his eyes as he reached for another strawberry. My stomach churned and the headache I tried to keep a secret from the boys had faded away. I think my stomach hurts because it just went from empty to full really quickly.
"Jacob," I said. Both Landon and Jacob looked at me. "Where did you get these?"
