"I-I think we should leave," Mabel smiled at us.

Eight days. It had been eight days since we left the crazy house. We were all visited every night from then but it just wasn't that bad. I was really happy, Farmer Jenkins had invited us to swim in the lake with Scarlet and Valley and my period had finished so we all were eager to splash around in the water.

"-and this one kid snuck in beer and threw up on the dance floor ten minutes after the countdown went off!" Scarlet laughed. I didn't laugh, but Jacob and Landon did so I smiled too. I sunk lower into the water as a cold wind blew over us, bringing various leaves with it. One especially large leaf landed in front of me and I lifted it from the water and smiled. I've never seen a leaf that looked like this one before.

"That's a rowan leaf, not sure if there are any rowan trees in this area though," She said sipping the strawberry lemonade through a straw.

"Ten seconds ago you said school wasn't teaching you anything useful," I deadpanned and she shrugged.

"Who said school taught me that? It's common knowledge, I'm not sure how you didn't know that was a rowan leaf,"

"You spoke before I did. How are you so sure I didn't know this was a rowan leaf?!" I rose further out the water exposing my shoulders to the icy breeze blowing around.

"I wouldn't kno-" She raised her hands in surrender. Jacob looked between us sipping his strawberry lemonade, arching one of his eyebrows. Landon's emotion remained stoic as he watched Scarlet and I.

"You can't even can it for more than a minute so just SHUT THE HELL UP!" I snapped my voice reaching it's breaking point as the red rimmed, heart shaped sunglasses Mabel gave me blew down onto my face giving my surrounding a darker tint. The wind leaving us in ccomplete silence except for the soft sound of the water lapping against the surface. Jacob lifted his hand out of the water and took the lime that was on the side of his cup and squeezed it into his lemonade the dropped it into it and continued to stare at us.

Landon slowly looked down at his empty glass and Scarlet just glared at me her large coily hair a lot smaller than it usually was because of the lake water it was drenched in and her dark brown eyes were just locked with mine as she glared at me. Jacob finally cleared his throat drawing all attention to him.

"That was interesting," I don't know why I thought Jacob would change the topic from what just happened.

"I'm going to get more lemonade, do any of you two want some?" She asked turning her back to me and looking at Jacob and Landon.

"Yes please," Landon smiled at Scarlet handing her his glass that still had a few melting ice cubes in it. She waded out of the water and Jacob and Landon looked at me.

"Why did you just explode up on Scarlet like that?" Jacob questionned sipping his lemonade. I shrugged, "I don't know like what does she think I am stupid?" I watched her almond skin contrast against the lime green grass as she walked back up to the farm house.

"Not everyone wants a piece of you Iris," Jacob smirked and I glared at him.

"Jacob you be quiet because half the time I bet you don't even know you're-" Landon cut me off.

"Let's just calm down-"

"Mabel and Harry are really kind for letting us stay in their home. We should really get on with looking for our parents," Jacob yawned and I nodded.

"Oh yeah, I talked with Harry about it. He said he'll carry us to the library and we could do our research," Landon said looking up into the sky. Jacob's sage green eyes lifted into the air as well. Not to look into the sky, but to make the fact that he was rolling his eyes a lot clearer.

"What? Did they write a book about our parents or something? What the hell are we to be doing in the library?" Jacob snorted at Landon who looked down at him.

"They have computers there. We'll just see if we could do our research, it can't be that hard,"
