Plain abuse, that's what it was.
In Butch's opinion of course.
He couldn't understand how she could still think her relationship encircled the aspects of 'true love', he could give her more that that, even if it was just as friends.
Maybe good friends?
Oh who was he kidding. After everything he told Marie and John to do (take care of Buttercup until he got home), how could he still convince himself that he didn't fall for her all over again. '-and what are your thoughts on the business proposal Jojo?'
Ah yes the meeting, it was still going on wasn't it.
'I think the plan is absolutely great and the deal is as good as it gets. I think we should say yes.'
All the others around the oval table nodded and talked amongst themselves.
'Meeting dismissed.' Butch announced to the workers, 'Good job today on the presentation Dave.' Butch stood up and patted the shy intern, who bowed and rushed out the meeting room.
'What's going on man? You've been spacing out every now and then, who are you thinking about?' His close colleague (aka secretary), Maeve, whispered to him.
'Nothing much. Also, Dave is a great guy, I don't know what Jones was talking about.' Butch dismissed the topic.
'New girlfriend? You know I see right through you.' Maeve said, smirking.
Butch stayed quiet. Maeve continued to follow him as he left the meeting room, getting to their offices on the floor above.
'You can't avoid me forever, we still have one floor and guess who you're stuck with on the elevator? Me.' She grinned as she pressed the button to call the elevator.
'No new girlfriend, you know my love life is as dry as your humour.' Butch shut her off, again.
'Ouch.' Maeve looked away, he was obviously in a bad mood and probably slept too late last night. They got into the elevator and Maeve pressed the floor number above on the panel. Then Butch sighed.
'Well, she isn't really a new girlfriend...'
DING
'No way, THE Butch Jojo not being able to get over an EX? That's definitely fresh.' Maeve gave him an 'I told you so' face and held the elevator door open for him, she walked closely to him, trying to hear every word he said. It was hard keeping up with him, he was significantly taller than her and that meant longer legs too.
'No, it's not like I'm not over her but she's in a situation and I feel like I should help her out of it.'
'Well, first of all, saying that she is in a "situation" won't help me decide what you should do.' Maeve snickered. She placed the paperwork on her desk and ushered Butch into his own office, making him sit down, while she walked around his desk, deciding what he would do.
'I don't think I should say, it isn't really my place to-'
She cut him right off: 'What, it probably isn't as bad, I probably have heard worse. Try me, married? Divorced? Pregnant with another guy's baby? I didn't think you were that type of guy...' she trailed him off, diving deep into her own imagination of potential answers.
'Maeve I really don't think this is an appropriate conversation for us to be having at work right now.'
'Fine, you're the boss anyway. Let's hope I don't get fired, just kidding. Or am I?' Maeve chuckled as she slipped out the glass door to her office.
Butch rolled his eyes before walking down the corridor to his own.
Maeve was annoying, but she was there when Buttercup left him, for unknown reasons, and Maeve knew all about her, so what was the point of trying to hide it.
'Wait Maeve.'
'Mhm?' Maeve turned her head back, curiosity peaking, but her sly smirk said otherwise, oh this was going to be fun.
