James read the advert on the job website and called immediately. A lady named Julie from Dew Drop Industrial, asked him a few questions and asked him to send his identity card showing how social security details and CDL. Once he did that, he waited.
The next morning, a lady Julie phoned and asked one simple question. This question is the question that all people everywhere dead and alive hate to be asked. ‘Tell me about yourself?’
Really! WTF? Why do they like that question so much. Probably because I never know the answer! Grrrrrr
“That’s the first question I expect when taking to any prospective employer. Ha ha. My name is James Bryan, you can call me James. I am twenty-three years old.
I am a computer science graduate majoring on communications, particularly in the digital space. I am certainly one that breaks the stereotypical mold of a computer geek. I am a geek but in the true meaning of the word, an expert in my field.I am six foot four and am four and healthy, having completed two half Ironman triathlons and a number of other long-distance races.”
“um why are telling me that”
Will if you let me finish……….
“I say that because for this particular job, you need to be for and able to handle the long hours behind the wheel and the mental requirement to complete endurance races is much like concentrating on the road for hours. One moment of distraction and boom, you are off the road!
I’ve my CDL as you know and have done a few shorter trips since qualifying for that license. One of four days and one of five days.”
“Have you got the ability to just up and go for ten or twelve days?”
“I don’t have a job and live alone in my flat which is on the fifth floor so I can just leave it. I have done it before and will happily do it again.”
Julie contacted him a few days later and confirmed that he had got the job and to confirm the details. James was to drive across the country in a truck to deliver the cargo to a client called High Street Trading, a very good client of DDI . He was not going to employed by the company but rather don’t this on an ad hoc basis, a sub-contractor of sorts. It was good money for a guy straight out of university. $10 000 for a week’s work. He did not have a job to go to unlike a lot of his class mates. He had other plans. He was going to setup a social media marketing company and move to a little town on the beach and work from home helping clients all over the work.
The instructions were simple. Drive the truck across the country on the A12 from Gerda from Juvyre starting on Monday and delivering the cargo to High Street Trading, the following Wednesday. The journey would be just over three thousand miles, an average of just over three hundred miles a day. He was to sleep in the truck. Any expenses were to be sent to the offices every day and would be paid back every Friday morning by ten o’clock. He could take one day a week off as long he told the office manager, Julie, twenty-four hours in advance.
You’ve got mail.
‘Hi James.
Attached is your itinerary for the trip. These are the stops that you have to make. Some you will sleep in the truck at a specific truck stop and some there will be a motel or bed and breakfast type setup for the night.Although we want to get the cargo there as soon as possible, we need to get it there safely which means taking enough stops. Some of the road is treacherous and we need you one hundred percent focused and alert.
Send me your slips for payment daily and we pay out as it gets to five hundred dollars or there about.
You have my details if there are any problems.
Regards,
Julie’
