"Can we stop by there?" She had noticed the small flower shop many times on her way to work. She saw the white Tulips and bought them. She had gotten off work early to surprise his sulking face. She smiled at the flowers. Remembering him in a chef's outfit made her laugh. Gosh, she didn't know what the kitchen was going to look like today.
"AYLA!" Reed's voice cut her thoughts.
"Huh?" She looked up, his hands were tight around the steering wheel.
"Alert the station. Get the trackers in emergency mode." She jerked in her space as he pushed on the gas paddle. The car flew with speed on the highway.
"It's not working." The signals were jammed on her phone. She couldn't even call the emergency number. Emergency line was supposed to work even without signals. What the hell?
"It must mean the ones of the car are not working either. Damn it." He slammed his hand against the steering wheel. "I'm going to get off next exit and jump the hell out of the car and get to the first security personnel you find. I'm going to get them off your track."
But before she could exit the car, the car was shot at. She heard something blast as she screamed. The car swerved in its place as Reed shot back at them.
"Stay down, just try to work the phone!"
He kept shooting back at them. She glanced out and they had no chance. They were one against several cars. She was trying to recall but it was as if she was holding a toy phone. She tried again, but all she heard was another shot and blood splattered all over her.
"No," she whispered looking at the stains. She was afraid to look. "No, please, No." Oh god! The phone fell from her hand. She looked up, her hands shaking. Reed was bleeding, and bleeding a lot. "REED!"
"I'm sorry!" He was gasping for breath between his words. "Stay strong okay?" His words turned into a whisper and then he stopped.
"Reed," She shook him. "Reed!" She swallowed the lump on her hand, looking out the window-shield. They were closing in on her. Next thing she knew the door behind her opened and she felt something hard on her head, everything else started fading into the dark. She tried to grasp for even a speck of light, but it all slipped from her hand.
Her head was throbbing. Her throat parched, her own breath scratched against her throat. She tried to open her eyes, but everything was spinning around her. She closed her eyes to make herself steady. Once her body was stable, she opened her eyes, but there was no use. Everything around her was shrouded in darkness.
She pulled on her hands, but she flinched when the zip ties bit into her skin. Her legs were tied too. She closed her eyes, trying to focus on any sound or smell. It smelled like grease or car grease. The ones like when she had gotten her car fixed. There was no other sound except her own breathing pattern.
The closed eyes brought the flashback from earlier. Reed's blood on her and the white flowers. White flowers. Fuck. Zach. Her eyes flashed open. She didn't know how long she had been there and how he was coping with it. Please be okay. She prayed, trying to move her body, but it only got more bruised and cut with the zip ties.
She must have fallen back asleep when the bright light flashed on her face, she pulled on her hand to put it on her eyes, but she forgot they were tied to the point they were numb now.
"Oh, little sunshine is awake."
She's heard that voice. Her head hurt too much to concentrate on a specific person, but she knew she heard it somewhere. She blinked, but the light was beyond bright for her.
