Hope Mikaelson just ended her call with her father and smiled. It seemed just like yesterday she and her family finally destroyed The Hollow who threatened to rip them apart and took care of a vampire purist group; when in all actuality it was two years ago. Her family was whole for the first time in a long time; her mother married her Uncle Elijah (long story), Freya and Keelin were busy parenting their one-year-old son who they had with the help of Vincent, a New Orleans warlock after a bit of persuasion (not too long of a story). Rebekah and Marcel were ironing out some last-minute details before they put down a set date for ingesting the Cure (another long story), Kol and Davina were roaming around the world as he tried out his long lost magic (another very long and complicated story).
All there was left was her father, the infamous Klaus Mikaelson. He was seemingly content with spending his days in close range of his daughter painting the day away and contacting his family when he felt the need to; or when Elijah called to check up on him and see what chaos his younger brother was bound to create. However, whenever he and his daughter spoke on the phone Hope could almost always detect an inflection of loneliness; when they'd meet for their weekly picnic they'd spend time painting and chatting she would see that same form of loneliness in his eyes and his posture. Klaus always agreed to disagree but his actions screamed louder than his lies; so she left the conversation for another day.
She and her father had just finished making plans for their next picnic that was coming up in a few days; after a lot of begging her father finally caved in and was going to take her somewhere out of Mystic Falls for their picnic. She wanted to spend the day hanging out with her dad in a new place for a change rather than sitting by a lake. Hope also figured that it would be better for her, her father, and the inhabitants of Mystic Falls if the father-daughter duo went out of town for their day out. Hope could still clearly remember the time when she and her dad bumped into a very human Damon Salvatore and his wife, Elena Salvatore with their children; the tension was so intense minutes passed before the children were successful in pulling their parents out of their dazes and each child promptly pulled their respective parent/parents away from the situation.
Despite it all, Hope was living her life as normal as a 17-year-old Tribrid could which brings attention back to the present situation. Hope put her cellphone into her back pocket and made her way down the halls of the Salvatore Boarding School to reach the library; she was tasked with learning a new spell for her spellcasting class. She walked into the library, sat down on a chair, opened her book, and then promptly closed it. Hope Mikaelson was bored; everything in the book she'd already done (not that anyone else in the school knew that.) She wanted something new. Something harder than the spells she was given and there was only one place in the entirety of Mystic Falls where she could find such a spell.
The Archives.
Were they dangerous? Yes, they were.
Could breaking into the Archives be an automatic cause of expulsion from the school? Most definitely.
Was Hope going to be rebellious and go into the locked away structure to find a complex spell? Of course, she was.
The youngest Mikaelson got up from her chair and exited the library; she stealthily looked around for anyone who might stop her. When she found none she muttered a spell underneath her breath; it would make her undetectable so no one would see her or even sense her presence. She made her way to Ric's office where she knew for a fact that a key for the Archives resided (of course it was only one of the many locks on the entrance). When she reached it she quickly ducked into his office. 'Where would it be,' Hope thought to herself as she searched around the office. She suddenly felt a pull; a magical pull she always felt when an object of magic was close by.
There. One of Ric's favorite books was up on the top shelf on a bookcase; she walked over and reached for the book. She grabbed onto it and opened; she rolled her eyes. The man had gutted out most of the book and inside of it the key rested; she took it out and pocketed it and reshelved the book. Hope exited the room and made her way to the entrance of the Archives; when she found herself at the door of the Archives she said another spell. This one would reveal just how many lock defenses there were protecting the artifacts behind the closed door. There were only three; one would think that there'd be more. Then again some people wouldn't stop to think that there would only be so few locks that were simple enough. If someone thought there to be a numerous amount of complex spells then perhaps they'd think it to be a waste of time and impossible, but no one in the whole world was like Hope Mikaelson.
She made quick work in unlocking the Archives' doors and slipped inside as soon there was enough room for her to get in. "Whoa," she muttered under her breath. Hope looked around it awe; there were tables, shelves, and boxes everywhere each containing a number of magical objects: good and bad. She examined the large oak bookshelves piled with multiple books; just maybe she'd find herself a spell from one of those books. Hope walked towards the bookshelf when she paused almost as if in a trance; she spun around and residing on a table was a box. It was bound with chains and without a doubt some barrier spells.
The Mikaelson girl ran her hand gently across the box and could feel the strong magical presence coming from within it. She made quick work in unbinding the box (the school should really pay more attention to how they lock things up; it was pathetic really.) With the old box finally free from any bindings she opened the box and looked at the contents with a raised brow; the only thing inside was a rolled-up piece of parchment. It didn't appear to be very dangerous but that was usually how many of these artifacts went. They were seemingly non-dangerous until someone actually found out how to use them.
She snatched the parchment up, not looking at what it could be, and left the Archives; after making sure that everything looked just the way it was when she entered, of course. Hope walked back to her dorm room successfully evading any other students, teachers, and most importantly, Ric. She would wait until Lights Out and then proceed with performing the spell.
If only she'd known just how much her life would change just by using one seemingly innocent spell.
