Kathleen Harrington was pissed.
"Katie baby come on don't be stupid. It didn't mean anything," her boyfriend, no sorry, her now ex-boyfriend called after her as she stormed away from him. She turned abruptly around and flipped him off, "Go to hell Jason!" Kathleen got into her car and slammed the door closed cutting off his protest; she glared at him through her windshield before pulling out of his driveway and sped off.
The 21-year-old had just caught her boyfriend of three years (who had claimed to be "sick") sucking face with Hawkins High's very own raging bitch Carol Perkins (who is currently in a relationship with Tommy 'asshat' Hagan). However, in the heat of the moment, neither offender seemed to remember that they were both in a relationship with other people as they were practically having sex of Jason's couch; or they just didn't care. The worst part in it all is that Kathleen knew exactly why Jason was sucking face with another girl and she was depressingly shocked that it had taken him this long to act out.
Despite the two being together for three years they had never taken it to the next level (i.e. sex). Kathleen wanted to wait; Jason, on the other hand, he did not. She had hoped that Jason would understand her position but it would seem that wasn't the case.
Kathleen, after driving a few miles away from his house, pulled over to the side of the road when she realized that crying while driving wasn't smart. She cried. The past year had been a rollercoaster; from the disappearance of Will Byers to Nancy Wheeler's best friend, Barb, vanishing from the Harrington's backyard and finally to her and her brother discovering that Hawkins was a lot more darker and much more dangerous than they could have ever imagined.
A young girl had escaped from a secret facility in Hawkins after opening up a gate to a much darker version of the town where monsters lurked only to be summoned when fresh blood was spilled. This young girl, Eleven, found refuge with an unsuspecting group of young boys who were only looking to be reunited with their friend, Will, after his mysterious disappearance. From there a mother obsessed with Christmas lights, a more or less sober sheriff, a photography inclined teen, a miss goody two shoes, a group of Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts, and a young telekinetic girl fought against the evil scientists and a creature from a different dimension.
However, as always, a story would never be complete without the jackass, popular, heartthrob. This is where Kathleen's brother, Steve, came into play; yes, he was the Mr. Popular Jackass turned good guy by the end of it all. He was introduced into this new world when he had gone over to the Byers' home to apologize to the oldest Byers boy and happened upon Byers and Wheeler preparing to capture the interdimensional monster.
Kathleen, on the other hand, had been introduced to this dark world after she had witnessed the telekinetic girl flip over a van and came across the sheriff, the two Byers', and Nancy who were also trying to find the location of the boys and their strange friend. Kathleen didn't know what to think; one moment she was on her way home and the next she found herself surrounded by people she had never spent any time with before hatching plots to contact Will and to catch monsters.
At the end of it, young Will Byers was found and the Demogorgon (as the group of boys called it) was destroyed due to the noble sacrifice of Eleven who gave up her life to save her friends. Everything seemed to be going back to normal which is exactly what the young Harrington girl wanted; she was happy to spend the rest of her days stuck in boring Hawkins if it meant no more paranormal/supernatural occurrences or whatever the hell people would call that one crazy week.
Finally pulling herself together Kathleen wiped away her tears if Jason had no problem cheating on his girlfriend of three years then Jason was not worth crying over. Getting angry and mentally killing him was worth it but not crying over some guy who couldn't keep it in his pants. By the time she deemed herself capable of driving herself home, it had started to storm, which was peculiar seeing as there was no sign of an impending downpour only a couple of hours ago. "Damn," she whispered to herself cursing herself for being weak and not waiting till she got home to have her emotional/mental breakdown.
She turned her headlights and wipers on (as was the rules of the road) and slowly inched her car off of the wet grass; she turned the knob to turn on the heater as the temperature had drastically dropped. "Where the hell did this come from?" Kathleen wondered as she drove carefully back home the wipers working furiously to clear off the windshield just enough for Kathleen to see a couple of yards ahead of her.
The radio suddenly came to life scaring the blonde enough to make her jump in her seat, "The hell?" And as it is said taking your eyes off of the road for even a few seconds could change your life forever. Kathleen looked up and saw a figure seemed to magically appear in the middle of the road; she hit the breaks and the car skidded to a stop just inches away from the figure.
The Harrington girl got out of her car in a fury not bothered about the rain, "what the actual hell?! What kind of idiot are you? Standing in the middle of the road during a freak storm!" She stomped up to the figure and froze when she saw who it was; it was a young girl probably the same age as her baby brother and a couple of inches shorter than her. Her hair was plastered to her face due to the rain making look like it was black, but it was her eyes that caught Kathleen's attention.
They were a piercing blue; it wasn't the color of her eyes more so what Kathleen could see in them that stopped her short. They were filled with confusion, the confusion one normally sees when someone was lost and didn't know where they are. "Where am I?" the girl whispered shivering due to the rain and not having on the proper clothing. Kathleen hesitated not knowing how to answer the girl but then made a quick decision. "Let's get you out of the rain; we're not too far from my house and you can warm up there."
The girl looked at her warily as if sizing her up. Kathleen sighed, "Ok look. I've just had a shitty few hours so either you can get into my car, we get to my house, we can change into something drier, and after a cup of hot tea I can help you out. Or I will get into my car and leave." The brunette, after a few tense seconds, nodded slowly moving towards the passenger side of Kathleen's car.
Kathleen nodded to herself, grateful that the girl had decided to get into the car; she had been bluffing about leaving the girl but kept that to herself. She ran over to her side of the car and got in blasting the heater up, even more, to ward off the cold that began seeping into her bones. She put the car into drive and continued on her way home with her mysterious plus one; "I'm Kathleen." The girl looked over at her and the corners of her lips curled up nodding a little. "And what do they call you," Kathleen asked looking over at the drenched girl who looked around the car warily before she answered in a soft unsure voice.
"I'm Hope. Hope Mikaelson."
A/N: Okay so this is complete and utter crap but I just wanted to do update something and this was the lucky winner
