Riley lived close to the school so it only took us around 15 minutes to walk there. It was a silent walk and I was fine with that.
Riley went to unlock the door, but it wasn't locked. She sighed.

"I think my mum might be home... just.. don't think too much about what she says." I nodded and gulped. Riley walked in and I followed close behind. "Who is it?" A woman asked.
"mum, it's me - Iv'e brought a friend home." I heard footsteps approaching. "And what's your name then?" Her mother asked. She was a tall and broad shouldered woman.
"uh.." I stammered but as usually I couldn't speak. I shot Riley a panicked look. "Her name's Avalon" The mother rolled her eyes at Riley "Can't she speak for herself?" She asked. Riley sighed and grabbed my hand.
"She's mute" Riley muttered as she shoved past her mother dragging me to her room.

Her room was small like mine with a small bed in the corner under a slanted wall. She had a desk and I decided to sit in the chair standing by it. She walked to the bed and sat down.
She loosened the corset she had been wearing. She must have worn it all day, but I hadn't noticed. She also put her dark blue hair up into a ponytail. I opened my backpack and took out my sketchbook and opened it on the side where I had written the message about what the principal had said earlier.

"Shit... I hope the parents don't get their way... " She said. I nodded.
"Do you think your parents might've been part of the bunch who called?" I shrugged... maybe my mom would do something like that... She knew I was feeling down a lot and she believed that music like YUNGBLUD's made it all worse, when in fact it helped me feel less alone.
"I think my mum definitely is part of this.." She huffed. I gave her a puzzled look to make her explain. " My mum is against everything that has the potential to make me hyped up... like.. OK boomer" I couldn't help but laugh "Aww, girl, you have the cutest laugh. Her mother barged in the door.

"I thought you were mute?" She asked me sternly I couldn't even nod, just looked at her with a shocked expression.
"Mum... mute means you can't form words, you can still make sounds..." Riley sighed.
"Oh, so you're just plain stupid then?" I could feel the tears pressing and I just wanted her to go away so I nodded. She snarled then walked out slamming the door behind her.

"As I said... don't take it personally, she just doesn't know any better" Riley comforted me and I dried my eyes. I nodded.
We talked for a while.. well Riley talked and I nodded.. about how Dominic would still totally show up at the school even if our parents managed to ruin this and he would definitely start off by playing kill somebody as that is his most controversial song.
The time passed quickly And soon the clock read 5 pm. I signalled for Riley to look at the clock "Oh, you gotta be home by dinner?" She asked sounding kinda saddened. I nodded and stood up from the chair where I had been sitting for hours now.

The walk home was kinda long, as Riley lived on the opposite side of the school that I did. Luckily there was a shortcut so it took around an hour to walk home.
When I walked home, mom was in the kitchen cooking dinner. "Hi honey" She said sounding kinda tense. I walked to the kitchen and waved at her.
"honey..?" She started and I stopped in my tracks.. Oh no, I must've done something I backtracked in my head.
"I read an article that your high school has won a competition for this boy to come perform for you" She sounded disgusted. I nodded "I've called the school, because I looked him up and he has this song called kill somebody and I just don't think it's suitable for such a young audience.." She paused "And I've encouraged other parents to do the same" I sighed and stood up. I walked to my room with my mom following close behind and I slammed the door in her face.

She raised her voice "Avalon! what's the matter with you?" She knocked the door. "you're not a fan of this guy, are you?" I opened the door shooting her a disappointed look, receiving a disgusted one in turn. I closed the door again and locked it. She didn't even ask if I wanted any dinner - she knew the answer.
