Chapter 22

When my feet hit the ground I could feel my knee twist, my entire body felt the pain I gasped.

The little girl stopped running a few feet away from me “Go!” I screamed “Get help.” I said.

She stopped staring at me and the end of the road, she was contemplating where to go “N-no..” She said running towards me.

She wrapped her arm around my arm and tried to pull me up but failed miserably. I looked around, we were in a man made road in the middle of corn fields.”

“T-the van has....stopped.” The little girl told me clutching onto my hand, her small little hand sweaty in nervous-ness.

I felt a twinge of guilt, this was my fault I should have let her run. She grabbed me and dragged me towards the corn fields I used my one working knee as support however I felt the pain from my skin scraping of my knee.

She pushed me into the long corn fields and I rolled my body deeper to hide in the long harvest, the little girl shook her head she clutched my hand and dragged me deeper. Once we were far enough for the people to not see us unless they came here searching for us.

I clutched her hand pulling her small frame onto my lap, I winced the pain in my knee growing. I heard growls and then some swearing “Pythonin, is going to fucking kill us!” One of them screamed.

I winced the little girl in my lap gasped, my hand shot to her mouth quietening her. She breathed heavily, I closed my mouth trying not to breath.

“Boys!” The one who was swearing snapped “Look in these fields, they cant have gotten far fuck sake, that little bitch. Wait till I get my hands on her...fucking whore.”

I winced hoping the little girl would ignore all this. I heard footsteps approaching the sound of harvest crushing under someone’s boot, It got closer to us.

My heart began to pump wildly and I began to sweat profusely, fear shot into me like electricity he was so close I could hear his heartbeat. My wolf was pacing, howling in anger.

How dare they take us again! I wont let them! She screamed in outrage.

He was right beside me.

The little girl on my lap began to shiver, I clutched her arm and rubbed soothingly.

I could see him pushing harvest out of his way to see further, he crushed the harvest right next to us. My eyes widened.

He looked down and saw us, he smirked until he saw the little girl in my lap his eyes flashed with sympathy. He looked to his boss and then down to us, I mouthed the word “Please.”

He ignored us “No sign here Boss. They've escaped.” he said.

My heart began to swell and tighten in happiness, finally. Finally, something was going right in my life, my luck had taken a U turn. I wanted to scream in joy, I wanted to run around just hugging everybody in my sight.

Thank god.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I sighed in relief I still didn’t speak, even when I heard there van leave. Even when the sun set and the moon came up.

I refused to speak.

They could still be here.

Wanting to take me.

My eyes snapped open when I heard a crunch, like some harvest underneath someone’s foot. I shot up, clutching the small girls body. My knee broke out in pain, I fell to the ground.

The little girl woke up “Mommy?” she called out.

I felt a shoot of sympathy. “Shh.” I told her she nodded holding her hand to her mouth.

I crawled towards the sound and noticed it was a pair of yellow eyes staring back at me, my eyes widened.

I was about to stand up, take the girl and run but something thick and cold slithered around my ankle, I looked down and gasped.

“I-I-...”I screamed, my first reaction.

The green thick snake, opened its jaw and dug it into my ankle, I screamed in agony. I could feel its venom spread in my leg. I felt tears well up in my eyes, the burning in my leg began to get worse and in no amount of time my body was having a fit on the floor red flashing in front of my eyes.

I could care less what had happened to the wolf, hopefully he had killed the snake. My leg began to feel numb and slowly enough my wolf couldn’t help me and I felt like I was dying my body swirling in and out of consciousness.
