Matty's POV
----
I didn't understand what had happened.
One minute I was making out with some girl at one of my friend's parties, then the next, I couldn't stop thinking about the fringe girl- Sirena.
She wasn't the kind of person I usually went for, not to mention that she was the grade below me, how old was she? Like fifteen or sixteen. God, it was so messed up.
But then I thought about her and it was like everything made sense again.
I didn't want to fuck her or anything, well, I did, but I wanted to actually be around her.
I wouldn't describe her as hot or sexy, she was just.. Sirena.
She was different. Sure, she was going through the awkward phase a couple of years too late, I mean, she called me buddy. But somehow, it worked for her.
So I decided to pretend that I was asked to tutor her in a subject that I wasn't even that good in.
"So..." she said the next day at lunch. We were sitting where she always sat with her friends, who were eating their lunch at that precise moment and laughing amonst themselves.
Sirena looked at me and took a bit out of her sandwich.
"So," she broke the silence. "Where are we starting?"
Shit.
"Um, I dunno, what are you working on at the minute?"
"Didn't Mr. Starling tell you?" she asked me and I chuckled.
"Uh, yeah he did, but I forgot." I said casually. I leaned back against the tree and watched her as she put her sandwich down and carefully dug through her school bag.
"Here we go." she smiled awkwardly at me, holding out a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Matty nodded his head.
"Uh, okay, cool. So, what are you struggling with?" he asked me.
"Um..." I began to flick to a random page and pick the biggest word on the page. "What does 'unsullied' mean?" I asked. Matty winced.
"Wow, you're really not holding back, are you?" Matty chuckled, scratching his head. "I'm pretty sure it means spotless, untouched, you know, that sort of thing." he said. I nodded my head, laughing quietly.
"Okay, great, thank you." I said as I circled the word with my pencil.
This continued until the end of lunch, when, to my surprise, Mtty asked for my number. "Just so we can study." he had added after bringing it up.
-
I walked home with Lucas, Holly, and Kass. None of them would shut up about Matty.
"Maybe it was just a weird coincidence..." Holly sighed, draggin her hands through her hair. The whole surreal experience was for unsettling her, but nowhere near as much as it was for me.
"Does is matter? Whether or not it's because of the doll, he's still pretty obsessed with her." Kass grinned at me. I blushed.
"Did you get his number?" Lucas asked me.
"No, but he asked for mine, so I gave it to him." I replied as we approached my road.
"You lucky bitch!" Lucas grinned at me and I elbowed him in the ribs, laughing.
