–No matter how much we dig in, we still can't find anyone who could've caused the fire, Mat'. –said the detective driving the car.
–Look Mark, sooner or later we'll find out who it was. We know already that it could only be someone with access to the building, a connection to the attraction's jobs and knew how to set the wiring on fire. –answered Matthew while texting on his phone, sitting on the passenger seat.
Mark sighed and looked to the horizon as he drove their car. It was midnight, a really dark night.
–Who are you texting? –asked Mark while trying to look for road signs in the dark.
–I'm texting Steph, to tell her that I am fine and that we're on our way. –answered Matthew as he finished texting and put the phone down. –Are you texting Amy later?
Mark nodded quietly as he noticed a road sign.
"Welcome to Hurricane."
–We entered Hurricane, we're half an hour away from our hotel. –said Mark with not much emotion.
Matthew nodded and rested his head on the car's window pane. He slowly started to fall asleep, but just when he was about to give in completely, the car started trembling and rustling.
–Oh, you've got to be shitting me! –yelled Mark in rage as he hit the handgrip.
–No way... –said Matthew looking at his partner.
The car slowly started to stop, until it did after 2 minutes of trembling. Mark laid his head back on his seat and so did Matthew.
–Just what we needed. –complained Mark.
–Can't we call Ethan to ask him to pick us up? –asked Matthew.
–Nah, he must be already asleep, and he never answers the phone while sleeping... We're stuck in Hurricane. –said Mark while closing his eyes.
Matthew nodded and texted his wife about the incident. Mark then took his phone out of his pocket and started texting his girlfriend to tell her too.
As they texted, Matthew started looking around where they were... and stopped at a house. A very particular house.
–Umm, Mark... –said Matthew as he patted Mark's arm. –Look at that.
The two detectives stared at an abandoned house, surrounded by a ton of moss and full with moisture.
–The boss never told us about this... –said Mark still looking at it.
–Should we go inside and see what's about? It looks way too suspicious for a house to be abandoned by everyone for years. –asked Matthew while holding his electroshock gun.
Mark didn't even say a word and simply grabbed his gun and got out of the car. Matthew followed him and they left the car behind.
The house was clearly old. Its worn and scraped paint denoted the fact that the house was once white. The brown roof had a few little holes, maybe made by some gang kids or caused by how old the roof was. The place by itself emanated horror, since it was the only house that the street lighting didn't light. The house was at least 30 years old. The model and the windows' style were from the 90's.
"If the lights were off for that house, then it means people are afraid of something about it" thought Matthew as he got out of the car.
They crossed the street and got to the entrance fence. They opened it with caution and proceeded to move forward to the entrance door. Matthew tried to push it lightly and the door immediately opened. Mark and Matthew got their flashlights out of their pockets, turned them on and entered the house.
The detectives split up and each one of them started finding things. Rick Astley cassettes, a VHS copy of The Immortal and the Restless, etc. But Mark finally got to the bedroom and started spinning around looking for anything suspicious... and found paper clippings and letters sticked to the wall and connected with wool strings.
–Matthew, come quick! –ordered Mark as he pointed the flashlight to the wall. Matthew then arrived and opened his eyes wide. There was more than those paper clippings and letters; there was a message written with what seemed to be blood: "William Afton did it." It was signed by Michael Afton.
–Dear God... –said Mark staring at it all.
–The famous case of the missing children in Freddy's! –said Matthew as he pointed all the clippings one by one. He then centered on the letters. –Gabriel... Jeremy... Susie... Fritz... and Cassidy. But what about these nine letters that are not connected to anything?
–I have a better question: who in the hell are William and Michael Afton?! –said Mark while looking at the investigation.
–It's me... –said a distant voice before the detectives would hear the entrance door suddenly slam. Matthew and Mark got their guns up looking left and right.
–Who goes there?! Give in already! –yelled Matthew while aiming and looking for the trespasser.
The detectives heard a light chuckle.
–I've been living in the shadows for too long... –said the mysterious voice again, from a totally different place apparently.
–Show yourself, faggot! –yelled Mark, starting to get nervous, backing up back to the wall with his partner. But they clashed something else before reaching the wall.
–I knew that my son would betray me when he knew the truth... And so I am not letting anyone else know, including you. –said Springtrap, who was staring at them with white shiny eyes...
The light went off...
