Carrie leaned over Hope to strap her left hand to the examination table when it happened. Hope thrashed at Carrie. Carrie screamed, clutching her throat where blood was gushing down to her gray owl t-shirt. Carrie gradually fell to the pool of blood waiting for her on the floor. Hope was lingering over Carrie, trying to release the restraints grip to finish her work. I came in just as Hope broke free of her manacles. I screamed as loud as I could as I bolted towards the door, trying desperately to escape. I ran out the door, but Hope wasn't far behind. Suddenly, Hope stopped so swiftly that I heard her black sneakers squeak on the sky blue linoleum floor. I turned around to find an arrow through Hopes skull. Who did that? I wondered. When Hope fell to the floor, I found my answer. Tre, an athletic boy with ear-length wavy blonde hair, was behind Hope, handling his crossbow. He got that thing from his father at age 14, and knew how to use it automatically. Tre smiled at his accomplishment.
"Thank you." I say, trying to catch my breath.
He nodded as he said, "You're welcome."
Haven, my boyfriend with striking blue eyes and black hair, stood behind Tre looking nervously at Hope. He walked over to me, steering clear of Hope on the floor, and gave me a hug. He is breathing hard, so I could guess he heard my scream.
"What was that?" he asked me, making sure nobody heard him.
"I-I don't know." I choked out.
Tre said, "Come on. We need to tell Ali about this." But Ali had found us. She was running our way, and for a moment I didn't see why. Then she bolted past us, and the unpleasant surprise is what trailed behind her.
