Steam filled the shower stall as you stood under the hot water, letting it flow over your skin and slide down your body. It felt nice to wash all the dried tar and dirt off your skin. The fragrant scent of your soap wafted in the air as you scrubbed the rest of the grime off your body. Once your skin was clear of dirt, you rinsed off under the water.

Shutting off the water with a flip of the switch, the doors to the shower opened, blowing warm air to dry off your body as you stepped out of the stall. A fresh set of clothes rested on the edge of the sink to your right, and you walked over to it and slipped on your underwear and tank top. You looked at your reflection in the mirror above the sink. Your eyes were heavy with exhaustion, and you turned away from your mirror and crossed the floor to your bed.

The lights in your room dimmed to darkness as you climbed onto the mattress pad and grabbed your blanket. You reached for the pillow resting against the wall and brought it over, laying your head on the spongy memory foam. Silence fell over your room, and your eyes fluttered shut as you started to drift off to sleep. But the sound of someone teleporting into your room put you on alert. You sensed his presence before you saw him, and you reacted on impulse. Focusing your chiral blood to your arm, you shot a beam of it at the man, who teleported to the side and chuckled.

"Now, that's no way to greet a guest, darlin'."

Through the darkness of the room, your eyes picked out the outline of the tall figure standing a few feet from your bed. Somehow, Higgs managed to teleport right to your location, which terrified you.

"How did you find me?" you demanded.

"Well, you see, that was easy." Higgs odradek popped up and lit up enough of the room to show you the rope in his hands. "You led me straight to you, honey."

The black and red threads of the rope stood out to you, and you realized he had taken the rope from the climbing anchor you had created earlier. Had he been keeping tabs on you all day?

"Why are you here, Higgs?"

"I think we got off on the wrong foot, and we can't be having that, can we?" Higgs shook his head and clicked his tongue. "You see, I'm not one to give up so easily, and you're not one to deal with Bridges' bullshit for too long, are you?"

"Rather deal with their shit than the Homo Demens's."

"What's the difference, honey? You folks from Bridges ain't liked too much back in my neck of the woods. Considered just as bad as me and my boys out there. Either way, you'll meet resistance. So why push for something you don't want?"

"How do you know what I want and don't want? You don't know a goddamn thing about me."

"Mmm, but I know enough to know you have quite a volatile past with your employer. Just a little tool for them to use and discard once they're done-"

You lost it. Pushing off your bed, you swiped your switchblade off the table and lunged at Higgs. He teleported out of your reach, making you stumble across the ground. He reappeared behind you and grabbed the wrist of your hand holding the knife, tugging it, and spinning you to face him as he shoved you back against one of the glass windows in your private room. You grunted at the impact before gasping when his free hand wrapped around your neck with enough pressure to restrain but not enough to choke. His chest pressed against yours as he held you against the glass, and you scowled at him.
