I looked up at the dark night sky and sighed. My gaze slowly fell to the forest floor, wild plants and dead leaves covering every inch of the terrain. I smiled when I heard a small sneeze from behind me. I silently looked over my shoulder to see one of the many small compsognathus that littered the earth. This very one just happened to be my only friend. She isn't exactly like the others, she has a dark red color and was slightly larger than most of her kind. Small coral dots littered her scaly composer as well. She is very unique.
Me and my brother had found her when we were 6, and in a few days she'll be 12. I slowly turned my whole body to watch her try and catch a green lizard mounted peacefully on a large rock. The small dinosaur cocked back on her hind legs, ready to pounce. The animal threw her body forward at the unknowing lizard and gulped it up with one quick movement.
I giggled at the carnivore when she looked back at me, the lizards tail still hanging out of her long snout. The female tilted her head sideways at I started full on laughing at her. She let out a confused gurgle as I sat down on a flat rock that lay by a nearby beach.
The air smelled of salt and I loved it. I haven't had a peaceful moment to myself in a while. I silently watched the waves lap over the sandy ground. I gently leaned back on my hands, letting the sea breeze infiltrate my nose.
A small nudge on my hand broke me from my calm state. My head whipped to my right hand to see my small red reptile looking up at me with bright yellow eyes. She started nipping at my sleeve, she soon started pulling when I wouldn't budge.
I opened my mouth to yell at the dinosaur to stop, but was cut off by a growl from behind me. My blood froze, I heard the small reptile beside me growl. I gave a pleading look towards the female, her once round yellow eyes were now feral and focused on the creature behind me.
I reached my hand over to grab the animal but, she was to fast. She launched her self behind me and my body followed in pursuit. I didn't even look up at the thing she was charging at, my eyes were only trained on her. I finally looked up to see a raptor, a blue one. At this point I didn't even acknowledge it, my only focus was the small compsognathus standing defensively in front of me.
"RORY!!!" I screamed, trying to catch the dinosaurs attention.
The female only looked back at me in return, and as I read her face, my heart sank. She looked at me as if saying, "I can't let you die too..". The raptor was watching with interest.
"Don't you dare die for me!!! Your all I have left and if you die, I'm going with you!!!" I yelled, standing up from my sitting position.
This in turn made both animals in front of me look at me threateningly, the larger one looked as if he was ready to rip me in half. The other was telling me to sit back down. I ignored both of their responses and slowly started to make my way towards the smaller reptile.
"You know what my Dad had said when I asked about how he was without Mom!!! He said, 'She may have been the one who died, but even tho I'm living, it feels like I'm dying everyday!'!!! That's how I would feel without you!! Now get back over here!!!!" I screamed, my voice cracking.
The small animal wasn't looking at me, but in the way she was shaking her tail from side to side, I knew I had gotten her to at least think about it. The only difference was if she was going to listen to me or not...
