Soft.

My mind registered the plushness of material and the feeling of a warmth of silk. However the silk was too heavy to be silk and much too warm to be a fabric.

My eyes fogged as I opened them and came face to face with tangles of blonde hair that belonged to the head of a sleeping Chandler on my chest. I ran my fingers on his arms, the silk feeling calming myself for only a few minutes before he stirred moved closer to myself if possible, his right leg snaking between mine as he made himself comfortable.

My eyes rolled back in pleasure as my throat bottled a groan of appreciation but it was short lived when Chandler’s bedroom door slammed open and a grim looking Alex came through and locked eyes on me.

‘’We have to set up the store and check damage. You should go home and come back later when you’re changed and what not.’’ She smiled but it seemed not to reach her eyes as she shook awake her brother, his mind too asleep to register our compromising position before I could exit the bedroom and make my way downstairs.

Downstairs was a wreck. The floor was covered in water, a few pots that previously stood by a window now lay on the ground broken and battered. Flowers were lying on the ground petal-less, their petals moving with the flow of the water creeping towards me while I quickly exited the store.

Alex seemed a little put off this morning. I wonder if she had spent the night somewhere else or had come home but judging from the way she wore the same clothes as yesterday, she had not come home.

My mind jumped to yesterday and that man. I had never seen him before but there was something…off about him. I knew enough to ask Daphney her opinion on the matter. I couldn’t risk anything going wrong. Not now that I had somewhere I wanted to be.

As my mind played out ideas on who the man could be, the once blue morning sky turned black again, suffocated in the black smoke of clouds before the rains started, then the lightning and then the thunder.

As I walked along the shoreline towards my home, the waves felt like they were tugging me into them and the wind was aiding the crashing water with the way it was pushing me, almost sending me falling into it before Daphney grabbed my arms and rightened me as she pulled me into the cave.

‘’This is strange.’’ She whispered as she stared out at the sky and water. ‘’Your father would never go so far. He would never draw so much attention. Apollo will be angry.’’

‘’My father is doing this?’’

‘’It’s confusing. He wouldn’t draw so much attention to himself when things are so fragile for him. He wouldn’t just start a storm out of nowhere, especially when his relationship with his nephew are so bleak.’’ She rubbed her temples and paced the corridors of rock.

‘’There was this man…’’ I rubbed my arm and she stopped and her brows furrowed.

‘’A man?’’

‘’He was watching me yesterday just before the weather changed. He wasn’t subtle about it either.’’

‘’This man!’’ Her long legs projected her in front of me as she gripped my arms harshly. ‘’What did he look like!?’’

‘’He was really tall, black eyes, short dark hair, strong looking and he wore this…’’ I was trying to think of the right word to explain his clothing as I gestured to my chest and torso.

‘’A military jacket? Black jacket with large gold buttons?’’ She rushed out and I nodded.

Her arms retracted from mine like she had just been scolded, eyes wide with fear and confusion. I wanted to know what she was thinking. What would make an oracle so fear stricken? What would make Daphney so fear stricken?

‘’You’re sure this man was watching you?’’

‘’Positive.’’ I nodded.

She quickly took off down the tunnels, me on her trail but barely keep up as she slowed down and walked with purpose to the end of the training room.

‘’I didn’t expect this so soon. We need to work on your skills more.’’

‘’Didn’t expect what? Who was that man?’’

‘’Just move the water, Jackson. We don’t have time for questions.’’ She ignored my voice but I walked towards her and ignored her scowl.

‘’Daphney! Tell me what’s going on!’’ The scowl fell from her face and her face fell emotionless.

‘’I need to know.’’ I begged.

‘’As long as you wear this pendent no one will find you.’’ Her hand hovered over my chest but her eyes flashed to mine and she ripped at my shirt, pulling and tearing the fabric. ‘’Where is the necklace Jackson!?’’

I looked down my chest and saw the necklace was gone. My mind turned frantic at the missing piece of all that was left of my mother.

‘’It was on me last night I swear. I never took it off! I wouldn’t!’’

‘’Jackson that was all that was hiding your powers and protecting you. You have to find it.’’ Daphney’s brows were turned up with concern

‘’Daphney. Who was that man?’’ I tried again and grabbed her face o she would stop darting her head and eyes around and finally look at me.

‘’I saw him a few nights ago with your father but he never told me he was going to use him. He would normally tell me these things.’’

‘’Who is it Daphney?’’

‘’Hermes. The messenger God.’’
