Below the title was the blue crescent moon again.
"On the pendant, now this?" I said.
"I think it's there for a reason, Agenos." said Minerva.
"I know. Next thing you know, we'll be seeing it on posters nationwide..." I said.
"Oh shut up..." said Minerva.
I try to open the book, but to no avail. It's locked.
"Minerva, it's locked." I said.
"Dang it... Hey, this may sound crazy, but put your hand over the mark on the book, now!" said Minerva.
"What?!" I said.
""Trust me, just do it." said Minerva.
I do what she says and my mark glows again as the book glows itself. The lock is opened and I open the book to the first page.
"Yes! It worked! What does it say?" said Minerva.
" 'To my dearest grandson, Agenos, in the hope that this book will help him prepare for the 120-year battle. May this book guide him in becoming a master in the art of water.' I guess my grandfather wrote this. This is amazing." I said.
"But what's the '120-year battle'?" said Minerva.
"There's only one way to find out." I said.
I flip to the next page and a title on the top of the page reads, "THE HISTORY OF THE WATER ELEMENTALS"
It read:
"Long ago, Joakan Moreno of the Polar Clan studied the tides. He was fascinated by how the moon, the first water elemental, pulled and pushed the waves of the ocean.
Joakan was a very spiritual clan member. He was considered as the clan's closest connector to nature. When the high tides came, he would mimic the push and pull motion of the waves. He would transpose into a trance as he did so and formed a connection with the ocean. When the connection was formed, he fully realized the power to control water. At the same time, a crescent moon mark appeared on his hand. This explains how an elemental would get his mark-- at the time of his first realization."
"So that's why I got my mark the day I discovered I was an elemental..." I said.
"I guess so..." said Minerva.
On the page beside that, I finally found what i was looking for.
"Minerva, look, THE HISTORY OF THE FIRE ELEMENTALS and THE 120-YEAR BATTLE!"
"Quick, read it!" said Minerva.
"Like Joakan, Heliotokh was the closest connector to nature from the Solaritriath Tribe. He was fascinated by how alive he felt everytime he took in the warmth of the Sun. He meditated on the Sun and he fully realized his power and control over heat, or fire. At the same time, he received the sun-mark under his hand. He pushed the air in front of him with much force and a huge, blazing, continuous fire generated out of the push.
Word about Helitokh's new-found power spread like wildfire until it reached the Polar Clan. Joakan hears about Helitotokh and immediately sends a message to Heliotokh about meeting each other. Heliotokh agrees and Joakan travels to the Solaritriath Tribe.
Friendly talk ended in an argument on which of them was stronger, resulting in their very first battle. Both are eventually locked in a trance; blank and luminous eyes; enveloped by their element.
They see themselves in Sicresia, the spirit world. There they faced Zahira, the highest ranking spirit-leader of the natural world, who is displeased with their corruption of the gift he has given to both of them. As punishment, he forces their descendants to battle every 120 years on the new moon of the 10th month at the Sicresia island to claim the ultimate energy force. This ultimate energy force allows the possessor to enjoy the privileges of experiencing their power to fullest extent. If any of them should withdraw from the battle, his powers shall be taken away from him forever."
"Agenos--"
"I-I-I have to battle with a fire elemental. No wonder grandpa showed me his battle. It's my turn to do mine, but this time, it won't be just any battle. I have to do this for my bloodline."
"But Agenos--"
"WHAT CHOICE DO I HAVE??? If I back down from the fight, I'll lose my powers, forever! If I don't, who knows what'll happen to me..."
"What was the exact date of the battle again?"
"...the new moon of the 10th month..."
"No, it can't be, no no no no!"
"What???"
"Agenos! YOU'VE ONLY GOT TWO MONTHS TO PREPARE!"
Two months. I've only got two months to win it, or lose it; literally.
A tear falls from Minerva's eye, while I am still not sure of what to feel.
