Miguel

"You did so good up there, Miguel!" Abuelita says, hugging onto me.
"We have to celebrate right?" Rosa asks, "I've heard of some good restaurants around town, and I'm starving!"
"I heard the Lucky Cat Cafe is good," I suggest, "it's close so we don't have to walk far, and nobody really seems to be going to it."
"¡vámonos!" Abuelita says, and starts walking off towards the cafe, we all follow like a conga line behind her.7/14/22 11:10 pm
We walk into the cafe, the restaurant is fairly packed, but not as packed as most of the restaurants I've seen.
A woman in her late 20's walked up to us, she had short brown hair and large dark brown eyes. She has an apron with a red name tag with the kanji
'こうなねこ かふぇい' and the name Cass under it.
"Hi, welcome, how many will be here?" She asks.
"11" Papa says.
"Oooo~! Celebrating something?"
"Kinda" I say.
"Well, we always have big booths open," Cass says, grabbing menus for each of us and some for the kids, "follow me and I'll lead you to your booth."
Cass walks off and over to a large booth in the corner of the restaurant, she set down our menus and grabbed two high chairs for the pequeños.
We all found a spot to squeeze into and sit down, making ourselves comfortable.
"Alright, I'll give you guys a few minutes to look over the menus. Shall I start you off with drinks?"
"Just water for all of us," Abuelita replies.
"Alright, I'll be back soon."7/14/22 11:13 pm
Cass came back with glasses and a pitcher of water, setting a glass in front of each of us and pouring us water.
"Once you're ready to order, my nephew Hiro will come up and serve you." She say, walking off.
I scanned over the menu again, making sure I knew exactly what I wanted. I'm not familiar with Japanese food, maybe I'll ask what they suggest.
"Hi, welcome to Lucky Cat Cafe, my name is Hiro, and I'll be your waiter for today. Is everyone ready to order?"
"Miguel, you order first," Mama says.
I take a drink of water and look up at the waiter. Before I could finish my sip, I realized who it was.
That boy from the music festival.
I choked on my water, I felt it shoot you through my nose as some water filled my lungs. I put down my glass and turned away, coughing as my eyes filled with tears and hot water drizzled down my lips.
"¡Miguel! ¿¡Estas bien?!" Papa asks as he pats me on the back.
"¡Estoy bien! ¡Estoy bien!" I reply between coughs.
"I'm so sorry-" Hiro says, sounding really guilty about the situation, "Let me show you to the bathrooms-"
I squeeze my way out of the booth, letting Hiro lead me to the bathrooms so I can cough, and maybe vomit in private. Hiro opens the door to the bathrooms for me, I walk inside and run my hands under the running water, splashing it against my face. I took a few deep breaths and shut off the water.
It took me a good time to remember how to breathe again.
God, if only Hiro wasn't so damn adorable...
I take a deep breath and regain my composure as best as I can.
I mustered up the courage to walk back outside, where Hiro was waiting for me.
I felt my cheeks heat up as my stomach churned again. I refused to throw up because I was flustered over a boy.
"Hey—Uh-sorry if that was my fault, yknow I really didn't mean it-" Hiro says, awkwardly scratching behind his head.
"Oh- no- it wasn't your fault- it's just..I feel like I've seen you before." I reply, mentally punching myself for such a stupid answer.
"Yeah, I saw you on stage, you where really good up there-" Hiro gave me a toothy smile, revealing his gap between his teeth, which in my opinion, is the cutest thing about him.
I felt my cheeks heat up more, "oh-uh-thank you-!" I reply, smiling back at him.
Why am I so awkward...?
"You ok to go back with your family?" Hiro asks, I reply with a nod.
"My aunt took care of everyone else, just tell me what you want and I can put it on your order. I recommend the Kaiseki if you don't know what to get."
"It's my first time here, so I'll trust your word and have that." I reply.
Hiro nods and smiles, leading me back to my family's table.
"I'll get those orders right away!" Hiro says and walks off. I sit back down at the end of the booth.
"You feeling better?" Papa asks.
"Yeah, Hiro really helped me out." I reply, fiddling with my my utensils. I'm getting nervous just by mentioning him. I'm really pathetic when it comes to this sort of thing.
