      Lloyd sighed, taking one last look at his room before starting to pack. He was off to college. In a few days. He was going from the country to a big city.

        He wasn't really prepared for what was to come. He knew there was traffic and a lot of people and buildings and pollution. But that was it.

          He lived with his single mother Misako. She worked at a museum and came home often with stories and discoveries that fed into Lloyd's curiosity.

          He wasn't going to work at a museum one day. He wouldn't follow her footsteps there. But she accepted his path either way, no matter what it was.

         He looked back to see her standing in his doorway. She had a smile on her face; yet she still looked sad.

       "What's wrong?" Lloyd asked her, concerned.

        "My boy is all grown up." She smiles back.

        "Don't worry mom. I'll try to text or call you everyday like we talked about." 

         "Oh it's no worry...I'll miss you."

       "I'll see you again." Lloyd started putting his things into the many boxes he had piled up.

       "I know. I know. You don't need to reassure me. I'm so proud of you." Misako came up to Lloyd and kisses his forehead. "I'll leave you to it."

        Lloyd didn't really want to leave her either but they'd keep in touch. He had to find himself now. He was nineteen. He had to be an adult.

       As he was packing he got flooded with memories. He had no clue how much memory could come with one item. Most of the memories were good. But some were just unclear.

           An hour or so later Lloyd felt himself standing in an empty room. He grew up here. He grew up with everything all in here and now it was just...Plain. Cold. Empty.

But he was ready to go. He was ready to head out. Misako helped him bring his boxes out to the car. The ones he didn't need went to the basement.

After a long embrace, Misako sent him on his way. He smiled at her and got into his car. He stalled just a little bit before he sucked it up and put the key in.
