Disclaimer. I do not own Undertale, I merely write about the characters. Also, in this story Frisk is 17 while Sans is 18.
_______________________________Frisk heard muffled screams as vines yanked at her feet, forcing her to the ground, and rendering her unconscious. It all happened so fast. First she was fighting Asgore, then he was telling her to take his soul, then Flowey came in and.....
It's all just like a bad dream really. At least that's what Frisk thought. One where she would do one thing, and before she knew it she found herself sparing Flowey for reasons she didn't completely understand. Frisk could still recall his last words to her. "I don't understand. What I do know, is that your mercy, will be your downfall."
Those words echoed in Frisk's mind. Over, and over, and over again. Maybe he was right. Maybe her pacifistic outlook on the world wasn't going to get her anywhere. At least, not anywhere in the underground. Thoughts and theories poured into Frisk's mind as she continued to float in this cold, dark abyss that she assumed was either her mind, or the afterlife. Considering both options Frisk really didn't prefer one or the other
Sure she doesn't want to die, but say she didn't; what then? The monsters would still need a seventh soul. And after coming all this way, Frisk didn't exactly what to be killed when she could practically see the finish line. It goes both ways too. In order to leave, Frisk would need a monster soul. She'd.... have to kill someone. A boss monster no less. Frisk just, couldn't bring herself to do it.
Then, something happened. A light flickered, then another. Suddenly, Frisk could hear voices. Voices other than her own ones that is. Frisk struggled to open her eyes and gain back control over her body; but through her grit and determination, her eyes managed to slowly flutter open.
At first the light was too bright for her to see anything, except for a few silhouettes. Frisk squinted her eyes and tried to make out the shapes. Slowly, her vision returned, and she both saw and heard a rather worried skeleton looking down at her. "Human! Please, wake up!" The skeleton cried. "P-papyrus?" Frisk replied questioningly, still unsure as to what was happening.
"Oh thank goodness you're alright. I was so scared you were hurt!" Papyrus said while easing up just a little bit. Frisk tried to sit up from where she was laying, before stopping and gripping the side of her head, while wincing in pain. " Oh no! You are hurt, aren't you?" Papyrus asked, returning to his panicked self. "If you'd like, I could get you some frozen nice cream for your head." Papyrus offered, while gesturing towards the fridge. "No, that's alright Papyrus. I'm fine." Frisk said while partially fibbing in order to reassure her pasta loving compadre.
"Nonsense! I'll have you know whenever I'm feeling under the weather, Sans brings me nice cream, and that ALWAYS helps me feel better!" Papyrus assured Frisk. Frisk giggled a bit before agreeing to let Papyrus help. Papyrus' smile widened as he stood up and headed towards the fridge. "Thank you Papyrus." Frisk said as the skeleton walked away. "It's no trouble at all, human! I wouldn't have it any other way, especially not for my Friend!" Papyrus said confidently. "Which I have many of." He added. Frisk laughed. "I'm sure you do." She said.
Frisk took advantage of the situation and decided to look around. She sat up and took in the cozy settlement she currently abided in. Upon further inspection, It was clear this was Papyrus' home, and his couch for which she was sitting on. Everything seemed in place, but there was something that nagged at the back of Frisk's mind. "Hey, Papyrus. Where's Sans?" She asked.
"* boo." Frisk let out a girlish scream as she jerked her head around to see Sans on the couch's arm just to the right of her. "* geez sorry kid, didn't mean to rattle your bones that much." Sans explained. "I-it's fine." Frisk reassured the skeleton, still trying to shake off the scare. "Ignore him human, he's just being himself. A lazy ketchup eating numbskull." Papyrus explained while scolding his brother. "* aw, paps. that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me." Sans joked. "Now, unlike my brother, I'M making an effort. Here you are human." Papyrus said while handing Frisk a nice cream cone.
"Thanks, Papyrus." Frisk said before shoving the cone into her hair, ignoring the obvious stickiness and instead focusing on the relief to the pain she got from it.
"* hey bro, think you could get one of those for me?" Sans asked with a raised 'brow'. "Sans, you've just eaten dinner at Grillbys!" Papyrus reminded the calcium creature. "* nah, that was just a late lunch. besides, there's plenty of time left for desert." Sans explained. "It's dessert, brother." Papyrus corrected his slob of a sibling. "* y'see frisk? guys like cact-US are serious 100% of the time." Sans said with a wink, earning a snicker from Frisk. "Oh my God Sans! That was one of your worst ones yet!" The annoyed Papyrus yelled. "* what can i say? i try my absolute hardest, at doing less than mediocre." Sans said with a tilted skull. To this, Frisk laughed wholeheartedly, giving Sans the ego boost he obviously needs. "Sigh, I'll get us some spaghetti." Papyrus said defeated.

Undyne shifted the spear in her hand impatiently, while walking back and forth outside the throne room. She let out an exasperated sigh. "* What is taking them so long?" Undyne said aloud, her voice echoing down the halls. Finally, the Royal guards stepped outside of the throne room, their armor shining from the moonlight that seeped through the cracks of Mt Ebott. "* It's about time you two. So, what'd you learn? Can we trust her?" Undyne asked, as if the answer to her questions meant life or death. "* She..." Royal guard 01 started. "* She seems to be who she says she is." Royal guard 02 nodded in agreeance. Undyne applied more pressure to her spear. "* What do you mean, 'She is who she says she is'?" Undyne asked, her fuse clearly shortening. "* I just mean, It would make sense if..." "* She was the queen?" Undyne finished for her intimidated accomplice. Royal guard 01 nodded slowly. At this, Undyne merely chuckled in disbelief. Her spear snapped in half under the pressure she put on it, causing both the guards to flinch.Undyne's eye twitched with irritation. "* I'll check her out for myself." Undyne concluded before pushing the throne room doors open. Both Royal guards looked back at her, before the doors shut in front of them. Undyne continued to storm in until she was a mere several feet from the intruder. The queen had her back to Undyne, she seemed to be lost in thought. This didn't discourage the warrior fish.
"* Excuse me," Undyne began, hoping to bring the queen's attention to her. This, was not the case. "* I don't know who you are, but if you think you can just march in here and take the King's throne, despite his death being HOURS AGO, then you've got another thing coming!!!" Undyne screamed, pouring her frustration out on the bewildered goat. "* I beg your pardon ma'am," The queen started, already bringing Undyne to a defensive position. "* But are you not captain of the Royal guard?" "* That's right." Undyne responded, still unsure what to expect next. "* Then, to my knowledge," The self proclaimed queen turned around to face the one eyed fish before continuing. "* You are obliged to serve whomever sits in THAT chair!" The queen stated while pointing at the now empty throne. Undyne gritted her teeth. "* My king died to stop people like you!" Undyne spat at her perpetrator. "* Your king was a coward and a whelp and I was his wife!" The enraged goat shouted. "*Liar!" Undyne screamed back. "* You shall return to your quarters and leave me to work this out, or you shall be taken to the dungeon!" The queen cried, tears now taking their place in the waterlines of her eyes. Undyne bit her tongue, her throat aching. She couldn't recall the last time she was this distressed. Just two weeks ago she talked to the king about both their plan, and their progress. Now, she was both without a king, and without a plan to fall back on. "* Your not my queen." Undyne muttered, almost unnoticeably quieter. "* You shall return to your quarters, or you shall be taken to the dungeons." The distressed queen repeated. Undyne's intellect let her know this was a fight she wouldn't be able to win. She devised a quick plan on the spot and told herself she would be back later. Then, she reluctantly followed the queens orders.
She turned on her heel and slammed the door open, causing the eavesdropping Royal guards to fall, and witness as Undyne fought back her grief and headed back to waterfall.
The guards helped one another up, then headed back inside the throne room. "* Uhh, Mrs.... Dreemurr?" Royal guard 01 said with hesitation and clear confusion. "* Are you... alright?" He asked. The queen, with her back to the guards, stayed silent for enough time to make it uncomfortable, before she simply said "* Please, leave me. I... need time to think."
"*Yes your majesty." The guards said in sync, before leaving, and closing the door behind them. Toriel, now alone, bit down on her fist, trying to choke back tears. "* Asgore..." She said nearly silently. "* What has happened?" Toriel asked before bursting into tears.
