Izaya and me were in the same class, but we never really talked to each other. I didn't really wish for anything bad to happen to him, since I didn't know him well enough to really hate him, but I wasn't exactly fond of him either.
For one there were many unflattering rumors around him and he seemed to be involved with alot of the drama that happened in our school.
However, the main reason for my dislike for him was, that I'm a pretty competitive person and the fact that he almost always surpassed me without even seeming to try to pissed me off.
So you can imagine my surprise, when he came to me one day and told me that he wanted to talk and that I should follow him.
I thought about the pros and cons of following him.
On one hand I had enough on my plate as it was and I knew that whatever it was, that he wanted to talk to me about would probably end me up in alot of trouble.
But I also was a very curious person and I knew, that if I didn't follow him now my questions would remain unanswered and I would never know why Izaya, who seemed to think that he was better than everyone else had looked at me for a moment with an almost resigned expression, before he composed himself.
I decided to follow him to the rooftop.
"...So what did you want to tell me?", I got straight to the point.
The almost unsure expression on his face was long gone and I started doubting, if it had been there or if I had just imagined it.
"[Y/n]~, I've decided to grant you the honor to date me."
Wait.. What?!
We barely knew each other and I didn't even like him in any way. Any halfway sane person would have left this conversation then and there and not looked back.
But since my mind hadn't really processed the information yet, since that was about the last thing that I expected to hear from him, I stood there still, not moving an inch.
When I finally got back to my senses I asked him, if he had finally lost the only sane brain cell he had.
He sighed. " My parents are constantly trying to get me together with the daughters of their business friends, since it would strengthen their connections. And since you seem to be the only even mildly intelligent person, whose parents aren't exactly poor, my parents will probably accept you."
"And why should I help you? We aren't exactly friends."
"Ouch, you don't have to be so harsh", he answered playfully. "How about this: you will help me to get my parents of my back and I will leave you alone for the rest of your life and not mess with your college application?"
"You wouldn't dare."
"Do you wanna bet?"
-------------------------------------
And this is how I endet up coming to Izayas house a few days later ready to be introduced as Izayas significant other. What a joy.
I rang the door and Izaya opened it a few moments later.
"Don't make such a long face. Aren't you happy to meet your boyfriends parents?"
I just glared at him and stepped inside the house. I heard hurried footsteps in my direction and saw two girls who looked very much alike.
" Looks like Iza-nii wasn't lying after all", said one of the girls. The other just nodded. She seemed to be the silent type. They introduced themselves, or better said Mairu introduced herself and her sister Kururi to me.
I was a little bit surprised that Izaya had sisters, since he had never mentioned them in our conversations. Well the only conversations we really had was when we would meet up to discuss our fake-relationship, so that we could answer the questions that his parents would surely ask us.
The dinner went without many difficulties. They did ask us a few questions about our relationship, but they seemed more invested in my plans for the future and in which university I would go after school.
Izayas parents were pretty cold people, but always when the tension would get to intense one of the twins (mostly Mairu) would do something silly, or ask a question which lightened up the mood a bit.
After helping with the dishes and conversing with the twins for awhile, I excused myself and walked back home. Izaya insisted to come with me and in the end I agreed.
We walked silently side by side, the air was was pleasantly warm and there was a light breeze.
"So... That wasn't so bad", he finally said.
"Your parents didn't seem to fond of me, but I like your sisters."
"Yeah, but give them time."
"How long are you planning on doing this?"
"What? Do you have enough already? Are you really such a goody two shoes that you can't even lie to someone for longer than a day? Well I should have guessed from the way you 'acted' today that you aren't a good liar. It is just a matter of time until someone finds out that this was all fake."
"Please, I bet I could be longer in this relationship then you do without being discovered!"
"Oh really?" He looked at my with an challenging glint in his eyes.
"Yeah!" I said convinced.
He held his hand out to me and after a second of hesitation I shook it.
I meant it when I said that I was competitive. Izaya may be a master at manipulating people, but I also had one or two aces up my sleeve.
I would make sure to win the bet, no matter what.
