Percy
A knock sounded on the door, and I rushed to go and answer it. I smiled at the scrawny pale italian boy in the doorway as he intertwined our fingers.
"You ready to go, Percy?" he asked me.
"Yep!" I exclaimed, wrapping my free arm around his waist and pressing our lips together. He smiled into the kiss.
"Come on Fish Sticks, we're gonna miss the movie!" Nico said, pulling me out into the hallway of my apartment building. We ran through the hallways, hand in hand, giggling like idiots. Soon we were out in the summer sun, a warm breeze washing over us. Our sprint slowed to a leisurely walk as we started towards the local theatre.
Nico was wearing his heavy aviator's jacket again. It seemed a bit warm for it, but I had stopped questioning that sort of thing when it came to him. He was rarely ever seen without it. I ran my free hand through his soft hair. A light blush formed on his cheeks.
"Gods, Bianca was being such a drama queen the other day. Thalia didn't immediately text her back and she flipped out. She was crying about how she supposedly didn't love her anymore and Hazel was just making it worse by saying that she must be doing something more important at the moment, and so Bianca was insisting that nothing should be more important than her best friend. She does this all the time, and it's really starting to get old," he said. I shook my head, smiling.
"Well, that girl certainly is an odd one," I said. "She's older than both of us and acts like she's twelve!"
Nico smiled and rested his head on my shoulder. "It's hard to believe we've been together for nine months now," he said incredulously. "It seems just a few weeks ago I was hiding from you for fear of being rejected, and now..." he looked up at me. "Perce, I've never been happier. I hope you realize how much I love you, because I'm not sure I can even vocalize it. I'm the luckiest person alive to be able to be with you."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I smiled and placed kisses on his head. "I love you too, Neeks, so much more than you realize. I wouldn't give this up for anything."
Soon we found ourselves at the theatre. Our hands parted momentarily as we handed in our tickets, but before we knew it, they found their way together again. My heart fluttered as my fingers slid between his, the familiar comfort of my hand in his making me giddy. You'd think I'd get tired of this, but I could never.
"So what are we going to see, Neeks?" I asked, as he refused to tell me.
"Well... It may or may not be the special one day only showing of Finding Nemo, but I don't know," he smirked.
"Oh my gods, you didn't!" I exclaimed. We passed by a man handing out hats. Nico grabbed two and put one on. It was shaped like the character Dory. He handed me a Nemo one, which I happily put on.
"Happy birthday, baby," Nico said, smiling brightly. It was a beautiful sight.
"My birthday is tomorrow," I said, laughing lightly.
"Well, what was I supposed to do? It's not my fault they're playing this today and not tomorrow," he pouted. I ruffled my hand through his hair.
"Aww, come on babe, you know I was just messing around," I said, wrapping my arm around his shoulders and kissing his cheek. He smiled.
"Yeah, I know. And anyway, Sally will have my head if I take you away from her tomorrow. It's your 17th birthday, for Zeus' sake!" Nico shook his head a little.
"I spend almost every day with you, Neeks. One day away won't kill you." I smirked at the disappointment on his face.
"I know, but I loooooove youuuuuuuuuu," he whined. My cheeks flushed lightly.
"I love you too, baby. I absolutely would spend my day with you, but my mom's taking off from work, and I hardly ever get to see her anymore. I promise I'll spend all day with you the day after tomorrow."
Nico considered this before shrugging. "Okay, I guess that works."
"Maybe I'll even spend the night," I suggested, smirking mischievously. Nico's face turned bright red. He punched my arm weakly as we stepped into the theatre. Previews had already started, so we walked to our seats as quietly as possible.
Once we got situated, Nico offered to go get us popcorn and drinks. I thanked him and settled into my seat. My attention switched towards the previews. Currently, there was an ad for a new movie coming out soon. It was about a straight couple getting together after their 17th birthdays and discovering that they were soulmates, just like every other romance movie. I rolled my eyes. Didn't anyone ever get tired of that?
Of course, there was no other way to go. Everyone knows that you can never stay in a relationship with someone who isn't your soulmate. That's why most people didn't even try dating until after they were 17. If you wanted a relationship immediately after getting your mark, you could seek your soulmate out. If not, you could focus on your career, and life would eventually bring you two together. While some younger people do decide to start dating young, they always immediately break up after finding their mark if they weren't soulmates. Never was it heard of to have your mark and date someone else.
Nico and I had no worries. We were both ecstatic about me finally getting my mark tomorrow, a permanent sign of our love. The thought made my heart patter excitedly. A minute later, Nico returned with a huge bucket of popcorn and two slushies, one red, and a blue one for me. I smiled at him and kissed his cheek as we settled in to watch the movie.
