Chapter 0 : A New Threat

Demons from the Netherrealm were invading the Sky Temple, and killing the Shaolin Monks of the White Lotus Clan who were trying to protect it. But the monks were way too weak — and too human, to be able to beat such creatures. Besides, the demons were way too many, attacking from everywhere, showing no mercy. After they managed to kill all of the shaolin monks, they turned to the two gods who remained still against them : Raiden and Fujin.
Raiden threw his powerful lightnings to kill the demons, whereas Fujin created violent tornadoes to throw them away. As a demon appeared from nowhere and bit his neck, the Wind God managed to get rid of him. But when he looked at the dark sky, he saw winged demons flying above their head. When they landed behind Fujin, one of them tried to attack him, but Raiden pierced its head with his staff.
Soon, the two gods were killing all the demons around them, but they still were numerous. One of them bit Raiden's arm but the Thunder God neutralized it instantly. A flying demon jumped on him to kill him too, but before it could do anything, it got cut in half by Fujin, who helped his brother to get back on his feet.
"Raiden !" he then called him. "We must re-fortify the portal's defenses below !"
"No Fujin." Raiden said shaking his head. "It is too late."
They both looked at the demons who soon lined up in columns, like soldiers. One of them, standing in front of the troop, got pierced by a green flying skull that then flew between Raiden and Fujin. As the demon fell down, Quan Chi appeared behind it.
He took a few steps towards the two gods, and said. "The mighty gods of Earthrealm..."
"You befoul these hallowed grounds, Quan Chi." Raiden answered. "Begone !"
"Surely you are pleased to see your friends..."
Then next to him appeared Stryker, Sindel and Kabal.
"You abandoned them to their deaths." Quan Chi added. "I returned them to life."
"A life worse than death" Raiden responded.
"One you will soon share. And my lord himself shall witness your fall."
Right after, the three revenants and the army of demons ran towards the two gods to finish them.

- At the same moment, at the base of the temple -

A few demons were disposing the corpses of the dead Shaolin Monks under the gaze of Jax and Smoke — or, at least, what remained of them. With the soldiers of the Special Forces, Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage stood behind a bush, as Kenshi and Sakuya were behind another, analyzing the place. The two groups looked at each other and, as Sakuya and Sonya nodded simultaneously, they started to approach the demons and revenants, but stopped immediately as Nightwolf appeared from behind with a few other demons.
As Sakuya and Kenshi took care of Nightwolf's troop, Johnny and Sonya attacked Jax and Smoke. Soon after they got rid of the demons, the Nature Goddess and the Sword Saint attacked the shaman together and knocked him out easily. As Nightwolf was lying on the floor, Sakuya could not ignore the sadness in her : Nightwolf was such a good person, seeing him like this broke her heart. She then felt a soft hand on her shoulder, and turned at Kenshi who gave her a sad smile. She did the same, and they then joined Sonya and Johnny who managed to beat Jax and Smoke as well.
The four of them ran inside the Temple, looking for the portal that was supposed to lead them to the top, where Raiden and Fujin were.
Kenshi, with his sword in front of his face, approached the wall where the secret portal was supposed to be, as Johnny asked. "That the elevator ?"
"Yes." he answered. "The « elevator ». Sento contains the souls of my ancestors. They guide me."
At the same time, Sakuya and Sonya were beating the demons that tried to attack them.
When Kenshi activated the portal, Sonya yelled. "Fallback !"
With the soldiers, Kenshi, Sonya and Sakuya got inside the portal, as Johnny turned at the two soldiers who remained behind, told them to close the door and stay there before he joined the rest of the team.

- At the same moment, in front of the Jinsei Chamber -

Quan Chi and his revenants were gaining ground as Raiden and Fujin tried to stop them, but they were soon reaching the Jinsei Chamber's door. The three revenants got tired of fighting against the wind and lightnings, and lie on the floor to regain strength. Then, a dark mist appeared around them, and Raiden stepped back just in time right before two skeleton hands clapped between him and Quan Chi. And, as they opened back, Shinnok was there.
"You see it now, Raiden." he said. "Your legacy."
His eyes were like two flames, and as he approached the two gods, he continued. "You poison their hearts with hope."
"And what do you offer ?" Raiden asked. "The same as you did millenia ago, when you betrayed your fellow Elder Gods and attacked Earthrealm. We stopped you then, inprisoned you in the Netherrealm. We will do so again."
"Remove the shadow from the light, the shadow grows. The legacy of life is death, Raiden. My followers accept this, and live on. They fight for me."
At this exact moment, the three revenants came back and ran towards the two gods. Kabal stabbed Raiden's shoulders with his hook swords as the god screamed in agony, and fought back by electrocuting the revenant. Then, Quan Chi tried to attack the Thunder God who dodged his kicks and fought back. The sorcerer created a green transparent skull that bit Raiden's face and made him stand still as Quan Chi punched his face and knocked him down.
Fujin fought Stryker before Sindel held his head and screamed to his ears, but she passed out thanks to Raiden who electrocuted her. As the two gods turned back to Shinnok, he used his amulet to push both of them towards the door which broke on the impact. The three of them were now inside the Jinsei Chamber. As Raiden and Fujin were lying on the floor, weakened, Shinnok approached them slowly.
The Wind God warned him. "You will not touch the Jinsei !"
"Oh, I will." he responded. "And all of Earthrealm will learn the truth... of death !"
Suddenly, he held his amulet in their direction, and a red light appeared, attracting the two gods to the amulet who tried to fight back against the strength of this energy, in vain. Soon, they were going to be absorbed by the amulet and trapped in the Netherrealm as Shinnok used to be.
But someone hit Shinnok from behind, making him drop the amulet and fall down far ahead, before he could achieve his plan.
When he turned back, he saw Sakuya standing, followed by Sonya, Kenshi, and Johnny, who joked. "Are we late ?"
"Miserable wretch !" Shinnok yelled with anger. "Insignificant speck of feculent scum ! How dare you !"
He tried to throw his dark magic towards the Nature Goddess, but she stopped it very easily by joining both of her arms crossed in front of her face. As Raiden looked up, he did not believe what he saw. He had not seen Sakuya for so long, it felt like she came back from the deads. And she seemed different as well : the way she stood with assurance, her facial expressions, there was a stern look in her face.
She did not take her gaze away from Shinnok, and answered to him with a calm yet strong voice. "I am Sakuya. The Nature Goddess and Mother of Earthrealmers. And you are threatening my children."

I hope you've enjoyed this prologue (which is basically what the original story is actually). I am sorry I took a lot of time to release it, but my tablet (that I used to write my fanfic) has been stolen 😭I am using my brother's tablet, I have to buy a new one...
