Shinnok threw another dark energy, but this time, towards Kenshi, making him fall far behind. As Sakuya rushed next to him to get him back on his feet, Raiden met Shinnok's gaze as he looked at the amulet on the floor between them.
The Fallen God said. "That is mine !"
Raiden then threw a lightning towards him, but Shinnok managed to stop it and fought back by throwing his dark magic to both Fujin and the Thunder God who fell just like Kenshi. Then, Sonya tried to shoot him with her machine gun, but Shinnok was able to stop every single bullet thanks to his power.
Realizing that her weapon was useless, Sonya then threw it away, as she looked at Johnny Cage, asking. "Ready ?"
"As always." he responded.
Then they both attacked the Fallen God with kicks and punches, but he managed to dodge them all, and even kicked both of them at the same time, making them hit the floor violently. However, Johnny got back on his feet and attacked him again a few times, but it did not change anything. Sonya and Raiden then both tried to reach the amulet, but Shinnok saw them and pushed them away, then threw his dark energy to Sonya who was lifted by it and was screaming in agony.
"She will be the first to join me." Shinnok murmured.
When Johnny saw it, he quickly stood up and threw himself between Sonya and the Fallen God. As his dark magic hit him, a green light appeared around his body, and he felt a huge energy growing inside of him. Shinnok looked at him, just like everyone else in the room, surprised by what happened. Sakuya instantly thought that it could be a magic which was born in him because of the fear of loosing the one he loved the most. And then she thought about Raiden.
As she turned her gaze, she saw him lying on the floor and grimacing, trying to stand up.
So she rushed next to him and asked him. "Do you need help ?"
He then looked at her with the same expression on his face, and shook his head as he got back on his feet. Sakuya was a little dissapointed, but Raiden ignored her completely and yelled. "Johnny Cage ! The Amulet !"
The man looked at him first, then at the amulet that was next to his foot. He then turned his gaze to Shinnok, and managed to throw the amulet to Raiden by sliding it towards him. The Thunder God caught the amulet, and as the Fallen God tried to attack him, he pointed it into his direction, and its energy attracted Shinnok's body against his will. When he was close enough, he got trapped inside the amulet, where he belonged.
Johnny murmured. "Enjoy the new digs, Gramps."
Then, he heard Sonya groaning on the floor, and knelt next to her to hold her into his arms, as she said. "Johnny... Did we..."
"Yeah." he answered. "we got 'im."
As she smiled, she let herself rest against his chest, and Raiden approached them. "Remain here. The chamber's properties will heal Sonya Blade in short order. "
Kenshi and Fujin came back, running, and warned Raiden. "Quan Chi and the others... they're gone. A surge of power within the chamber overwhelmed my senses."
"We can deal with Quan Chi later, Kenshi." Fujin answered.
"We've netted a bigger prize this day." Raiden added as he held the amulet.
"Shinnok's amulet." Kenshi said. "and within it..."
"Ol' Fishface himself." Johnny responded.
Then Fujin turned at the Thunder God and proposed. "Let us take the amulet to the Elder Gods."
"They cannot destroy it." he answered. "No one can."
"They might offer counsel. Shinnok can never escape."
As he nodded at him, Raiden then looked behind him and met Sakuya's face who was ready to go with them. After a few seconds, he told her. "Stay here with Sonya Blade. She will need your help."
At first surprised, Sakuya then nodded. She thought that it could have been a great opportunity to speak with him after all this time. But she could feel that something was off. Raiden did not seem as friendly and kind as he was before she left. Maybe he did change too, after all.

- A few moments later -

After she helped Johnny and Sonya to return back to Earthrealm, Sakuya teleported back to the Sky Temple to see if Raiden came back from the Heavens. She also wanted to talk with him a little. He was so cold to her when they were in the Chamber of the Jinsei, she was afraid that he would push her away if she tried to speak to him this time. But still, she wanted to go to see him, she did not want to let him turn his back on her.
As she quickly approached the front door of the temple, she froze as she noticed that the Thunder God was standing outside, in front of the Jinsei Tree, and holding in his hand a little statue that Sakuya never saw before. For a moment, she hesitated : she was unsure if it was the right moment to go to see him. Maybe it sounded stupid to think that, but the way he acted with her earlier made her think that maybe she was not ready to actually face him now. She was afraid to be rejected, somehow.
The Nature Goddess then turned back at him and started to leave, but froze instantly as she heard the Thunder God say. "So you have chosen to leave once again."
During a few seconds, Sakuya held her breath. She didn't even flinch, just stood still as a stone. But then, she decided to turn back and saw Raiden put down the statue he was holding to face her. The Thunder God kept his serioussness as he asked. "Why are you here, Sakuya ?"
Why was she here ? She didn't even know herself.
"I wanted to know," she responded, "what you did with Shinnok's amulet. I mean- what did the Elder Gods say ?"
Raiden nodded slowly, then turned back to the memorial next to him. A few silent seconds lasted and it made Sakuya feel very uncomfortable.
But then the Thunder God broke the silence. "They have locked it within a dark dimension so no one can reach it. Unless..."
As she carefully approached him, Sakuya was fully listening. "Unless... ?"
"Unless someone gets the kamidogu."
"What ?" She said with surprise. "The kamidogu is the key to Shinnok's amulet ?"
The Thunder God nodded but didn't even glance at her. But Sakuya did not take her gaze away from him. She thought for a few seconds about the amulet, and asked. "And where are the kamidogu ?"
"They all are dispersed in many different places. I do not know it myself."
As she frowned, the Nature Goddess asked. "Isn't it risky to divide the kamidogu like this and not to take precautions in case someone would want to search them ?"
With his straight face, the Thunder God finally decided to face her, and said. "What do you mean ?"
"Well," she continued, "shouldn't they be protected by the Elder Gods ? Instead of being hidden Gods know where ?"
"Why do you want to know where they are ?" He asked with anger. "Do you plan to obtain Shinnok's amulet ?"
Sakuya was shocked. Raiden never told her such things, and he acted strangely. She looked deep inside his eyes but could not recognize him. This was not the way he looked at her a few years ago. This was not the way he talked to her either. But Sakuya still recognized this gaze of his. The last time he had this look in his eyes when he put his gaze on her was when they first met. When Sakuya was a complete stranger to him. Was this the way he saw her now as well ? After all this time ?
This pissed the goddess off, who responded. "Raiden, what is wrong with you ?"
"What is wrong with you, Sakuya." he answered back. "You arrived from nowhere after two years of absence. Two years, that is nothing in a god's life, yet it felt like centuries to me. You have not given me any news during those two years. It was like... you were dead."
The Nature Goddess looked at him, but she was saddened as he spoke, because she knew she could not be angry at him : he was completely right.
"I have tried to see you, many times, and you have always pushed me away." he added. "Now, you are back and you want me to act as everything is normal. Well, it is not, Sakuya."
The goddess lie her gaze down, she felt ashamed. She whispered. "I... needed to be alone."
"I did not." he responded.
The Nature Goddess did not expect this answer. As she turned back her gaze to look at him, he did no longer seem mad. He seemed sad. Raiden was a demi-god who lived so many years that he did not even count anymore. He has been alongside many mortals and, with time, he has been used to lose them in endless wars. He even managed to grieve after Liu Kang and Kung Lao's death. But, this time, it was different. Not only Sakuya was not a mortal (at least, not anymore), but he also shared with her something he never shared with anyone, and felt something for her that he never did feel before. And he was not ready to give up on her yet. But the fact that she seemed ready to continue her life without him alongside her hurt him to the core. He let her make him more human, soften his heavy heart, only to break it into pieces.
On the otherside, Sakuya learned how to be stronger. She took example of Raiden and his years and years of experience. She promised to herself that she would never let anyone or anything hurt her, and for that, she needed to eliminate her weaknesses. But then, she realized that even Gods had weaknesses, and that did not make them weak at all. They only managed to handle those weaknesses and find the right harmony concerning what they felt towards those weaknesses : not to be too stoic, nor too sentimentally attached to them. But Raiden was her biggest weakness, and she didn't know how to handle those feelings, so she felt that it would've been the best for her to stay away from him, but by doing that, she only hurt herself and him even more, making the complete opposite of what she wanted to do in the first place.
She finally broke the silence, and murmured. "I am sorry, Raiden. I should not have done this to you. I have been selfish."
The Thunder God's face has softened even more to these words. He did not want to be mad at her, he cared too much about her to be capable to do such thing. Sakuya kept her head low. She did not want to face him — partly because she was ashamed—, but especially because she felt the tears in her eyes and she did not want him to see her like this. She closed her eyes to calm herself. She could not break down. Not now, not here, not in front of him.
She then felt two warm arms around her, then her face was against Raiden's torso. As she closed her eyes and wrapped her arms back around him, she sniffed his odor which made her think of a white lotus in bloom, and once again, she felt like home.
