"What a let-down! The one person I wanted to see wasn't even there!" complained a voice within the valleys of Mahala. The voice belonged to Denny Ilyapaloma, a well-known songstress across the realm.
"You mean the Phantom Mage?" asked her coachman.
"Yes! It was supposed to be a gathering of mages but only two were present!" said the aggravated being, the hairs of her tail mirroring her mood.
"But it was an excellent performance as always Denny. The crowd was completely charmed."
"It does not matter if the most important person was not there! Why else did I go through the trouble of performing for these stuck-up nobles for? Anyway, how much longer until we arrive? Why is it taking so long?"
"I am sorry. The routes have been restricted due to Xeniths' sighting. A caravan disappeared a few days ago along these paths so I'll be going around. "
"Do you think just anyone will be attacked? Advance onwards right this instance! I'm tired! I won't be waiting any longer! " ordered Denny, baring her fangs and leaving the coachman with no other choice than to comply.
Barely ten minutes have passed by when a shrilling wail resounded and from the path ahead of them emerged a Xenith, its immense lump of clustered limbs rapidly crawling its way towards them. Before the pair could have time to react it was upon them rendering unable to fetch their weapons.
Just as they were about to be struck a ring of dark flames erupted from the ground, engulfing it. All that was left was the slowly dying mess of the creature and from above descended a figure clad in dark robes with the remnants of his powers dissipating around him.
"These attacks seem to be getting more frequent" mussed the figure who seemed to be a young boy "Be careful, these parts are dangerous, I'd advise you to turn back" he added with a glance at them. As if remembering something, he fumbled with his pockets and took out a piece of paper.
"Umm... could I ask a favor?" asked the boy appearing flustered.
"Y-yes? Yes" answered Denny still dazed by the terrifying display of power.
"Could you please sign this?" he asked handing out the piece of paper which she signed mechanically.
"Thank you" he said taking it back and leaped into the air to land upon his mount that was hovering above. And just like that he was gone as quickly as he had appeared.
Denny remained rooted in place for a few more minutes before her brain decided it was time to reboot "Was that... the Phantom Mage?"

"I'm Vinx, ascend. That's one thing taken care of" huffed out Vinx in relief as he and Ray made their way higher into the mountains. It didn't take long for them to reach their destination and soon they were standing at the entrance of a cave.
"Someone was here" said Ray motioning to traces of mana on the ground.
The place looked almost as Vinx remembered to have left it with its large ominous walls swallowing any light coming through. It led to several tunnels that created a confusing labyrinth in which one could easily get lost.
Vinx quickly navigated his way inside with Ray following closely behind fearing the booklet had been discovered. He reached the small alcove in which he had buried it in no time. To his bewilderment the place had been dug up and his dairy stood in the middle of a strange array which very obviously looked like a trap.
