At the time of Uthred The Godless and the Danes Conquest of Northumbria,The rise of Christianity was Dawning and Most of The Citizens of England were Christian. And
only a handful of people Worshipped The Norse Gods.

And if you were to practice Wicca or even believe in Magick you were either burned as a witch or hung as a warlock.it was a bad thing not to be Christian and to worship the "old gods".

Today Pagans are countlessly asked if we worship Satan and are demonic,We are far from it.if you ever get this question don't get offended just brush it off and correct them.
