She walks down the white hallway, her oversized blue gown brushing against her sneakers. Despite the rubber soles, they make a loud noise on the spotless floor, which echoes throughout The Building. She is supposed to be walking around The Building for exercise while the Blue Suit People clean up her room. Instead, She wanders out into the courtyard. She sits down under a tree, eyes staring blankly at vast nothingness. Sure, there are a few trees here and there, but it means nothing. Just hollow colors. She feels a stinging on her neck. She tilts her head back to try and smother the pain, but it doesn't last long. Now She is drowsy. The darkness crawls in from the corners of her eyes until it is completely black.
She wakes up tied to her bed again. The bright light in the room hurts her eyes, but she keeps them open anyways in hopes that The Nice Lady will see that She's awake. A door opens. Not hers. It's somewhere else in the building. Then screaming. A door closes again. Silence. This is more common than you would think in this building. The Nice Lady finally comes in, a tray of food in her hand. The Nice Lady undoes the binds on her hands so She can eat her breakfast. It's all soft, and doesn't require utensils. The Nice Lady watches her to make sure She's eating. She notices a sadness in The Nice Lady's eyes. After breakfast, She falls back asleep.
This time when She wakes up She is not shackled to her bed. In fact, She's not in her bed at all. She's on what looks like a park bench from one of those picture books. A bird flying by. Children shrieking. A fence with peeling white paint. Is this what Outside The Building feels like? The air feels the same as inside. She sits up, and swings her legs over to touch the ground. She starts to stand up. Just before She starts walking, She jolts awake. For real this time.
