It’s been I’d say eight months now, since we lost the farm and Uncle Rick went all Dictator on us. Daryl and I haven’t snuck off any really to be alone like we did on that first night, although I don’t think that was planned. Well not for me it wasn’t but I think maybe Daryl did because he was the one who suggested it in the first place. My aunt is definitely showing signs of being pregnant and all this traveling around it not helping her out at all. I’d say she’s coming up near the end of her pregnancy now with the size she is. Now more than ever we’re trying to find a safe place to hunker down so she doesn’t have to deliver her baby in the woods.

I spotted this house on the edge of the woods when we were driving by and pointed it out to Daryl. So now here we are, me, Maddie, Aunt Lori, Beth, and Hershel waiting out by the cars while Uncle Rick, T-Dog, Carl, and Daryl go inside and make sure it’s safe for us while Glenn and Maggie checked the perimeter. “You okay,” I asked Aunt Lori as I helped her sit back in the car while we waited. “Yeah,” she said smiling up at me as Maddie came running over to us. “Aunt Lori is the baby moving again,” she asked looking up excitedly at her. “No sweetie it’s not moving right now,” she said looking down at my disappointed daughter, “it’s probably sleeping now.” “Okay,” Maddie said looking down just as I heard Uncle Rick whistle. “It’s clear,” I said looking around noticing Maggie and Glenn were nowhere in sight.

I walked in first with Maddie right beside me holding my hand. As I walked by Uncle Rick, I nodded at him once then walk on into another room where I saw T-Dog and Daryl go. After me was Beth, Aunt Lori, and finally Hershel. I walked over to where Daryl had sat with a bird, an owl by the looks of it, and sat down next to him with Maddie on my lap as we watched him pluck it. “Momma I’m hungry,” Maddie said looking up and back at me from where she sat. “I know baby me too,” I said wrapping her in a tight hug as everyone else walked into the room, Carl being the last one with two cans in his hands. I watched as he started opening one of the cans and the spell of wet dog food filled the air. “Carl what is that,” I asked looking at him but he didn’t answer me.
~Daryl~

I glanced at Lizzie as she looked to her little cousin who didn’t seem to intend to answer her. I looked back down at the owl in my hands, continuing to clean the bird off, before I glanced over at Mads on Lizzie’s lap who was watching me intently. I heard footsteps walking around the room, I assumed it was Rick from the sounds of them but I wasn’t too sure as I was focused on the bird. I heard the footsteps go to one side of the room then came back to stand near where I sat before I heard the sound of something metal or close to it being thrown and hitting some kind of wall. I jumped in surprise and heard little Mads’ squeak of shock from the sound. We all looked to Rick before he turned around and had his back to us all.

I dropped the feathers in my hand that I had at the time and placed it over both of Mads’ small ones, trying to give her a comforting smile while Lizzie lightly ran her hand over the back of her head soothingly. The little girl just turned six not too long ago, she still scared easily. I went back to the bird when I heard T-Dog call for everyone’s attention and then pick up his weapon. Great more damn walkers, it’s like we can’t get a fucking break. I dropped my bird and pulled out my crossbow to hold in front of me before I led the way out the back and around to our waiting cars. Lizzie right behind me with Maddie until she reached her family’s car and placed Maddie inside and allowed Carl to climb in beside her and came back over to me while I hopped on my bike.

I started the bike, waiting for Lizzie to hop on with me before I took off down the drive, back to the road with everyone else following behind us. We drove out for a bit, trying to put as much distance between us and that new herd as possible. When we were far enough away, we pulled over, Lizzie hopping off first before I even managed to turn the bike off. She turned and headed back to the car her family was in and talked to Lori, probably telling her to keep an eye on Maddie, before she turned around and came back to the rest of us as we gathered around a car and began discussing the plans.

“We’ve go nowhere else to go,” I heard T say as I walked back over to the group at the front vehicle and stood next to Daryl as we discussed what to do. “When this herd here meets up with this one we’ll be cut off,” Maggie said pointing at the map that Glenn laid out on the hood of the car, “we’ll never make it south.” “So then what do we do,” I asked as I looked down at the map then up at the rest of the group waiting to see what the answer was. “What would you say,” Daryl said from beside me before pointing at one of the markings on the map where the herds were, “’bout hundred and fifty head?” “That was last week,” I said looking to him, “it could be twice that by now.” “Mommy,” I heard little Maddie say walking over to me. “What baby,” I asked picking her up and walking back over to Aunt Lori so she didn’t have to hear this discussion.

“I’m tired of moving around Mommy,” she said looking up at me sadly. “I know baby me too,” I said as I looked to my Aunt, “how you doin’ Aunt Lori?” “I’m alright,” she said placing her hand on her stomach as she sat in the passenger side of the car. “We’ll find someplace safe soon,” I said looking from my aunt to my daughter in my arms, “I know we will.” “Hey,” I heard a rough voice say from off to my right. I looked over to see Daryl walking up with his crossbow on his shoulder. “What’s going on,” I asked sitting Maddie down and turning to face him. “While the others are washing their panties let’s go hunt,” he said looking at me, “that owl didn’t exactly hit the spot.” “Okay,” I said nodding before leaving Maddie with Aunt Lori and following him into the woods.

“Hey c’mere,” Daryl said after we had walked a good way’s into the woods, far enough away from the group. “Daryl what are you doin’,” I asked giggling as he wrapped his arms around my waist and placed kisses on my neck. “What’s it look like I’m doin’,” he asked with his lips still against my neck as he slowly trailed them upwards to my mouth while his hands began working on my jeans. Instinctively my own went to his and began doing the same. He finally pulled his mouth away from mine as we both were breathing a little faster as we focused on each other’s pants, trying to get them undone as fast as possible. “We don’t have much time,” I said as we both pulled them down. “We’ll make it quick,” he huffed before turning me around to place both my hands on the tree that hand been behind me.
