Two Years Later

"Sharon, don't touch that!" Clara says to her daughter before she gets a knife off of the table. "Who left a knife within reach!" Okay, now she's yelling at everyone.

"I'm blaming Donald. He's the only one who doesn't think around here."

"I'm going to-" she look at her daughter who's looking back at her with innocent eyes. "Shar, why don't you go play with Carter before we all sing happy birthday to you." Carter is Camille and Stan's son. His birthday was just a week ago.

Sharon just turned around and ran to the party in the backyard. "Where is he," Clara said as soon as Sharon was gone.

"Probably somewhere tormenting Karma. But I do not know where."

"Fine, but once you see him tell him I'm kicking his ass for being stupid!"

"I walk in to the word stupid," Donald says coming into the room. "This conversation must be about me. What did I do this time?"

"You left a knife somewhere any of these kids could've reached and seriously harmed themselves."

"I would not-. Oh."

"Yeah 'oh'."

"See," I say. "Stupid."

"I heard stupid," Mark say coming in.

"Must be talking about Donald," Karma says following him.

"Where were you two?" Donald ask Karma.

"Wouldn't you like to know," Mark says obviously teasing him.

"He just got me out of work," Karma said. "I'd have too much guilt if I missed Sharon's birthday party."

"Right," Donald whispered under his breath but we all heard him anyway.

"Wait a minute," Clara says. "Who's outside watching the kids if all of you are in here?"

"Bartender and Catherine," I say.

"How do you know that?"

"I'm looking at them right now."

Everyone turns to face the window that leads outside. There they were. Bartender is not a fan of kids birthday parties. And everything puts a smile on Catherine's face nowadays.

Ever since her sister, Candace straightened up her attitude, Catherine has been the meaning of happiness. It's almost like she's an old fairytale princess. Well, except for the prince part.

"Hey, where's Camille and Stan?" Donald asked.

"Oh, they just left out to get the cake," Mark says.

"They just left out! It's almost time to wish her a happy birthday," Clara said.

"I know Clara," I said. "It shouldn't take too long to-"

"Jade Dark Black," the voice of Roman interrupts me. He comes strolling in the room like he owns the place. I kind of like it.

He finally reaches me and everyone is looking like their watching the season premiere of their favorite show. I wonder what's got his balls in a bunch.

"I know this is no way to ask a woman this, but I'm tired of waiting. For a whole year I've been asking you to marry me and what do you tell me?"

"Not yet," I answer.

"'Not yet'," he quotes me. "Well dammit I say now is the time to put this ring on that sexy finger. I am not going another year of not yet. So you are marrying me woman."
