An open field stretched out, rolling and dipping like waves. On a small rise stood nine starry cats who surrounded a dappled she-cat with pretty blue eyes. A white she-cat with dappled patches stepped from the starry ranks of cats. The white she-cat looked very similar to the dappled she-cat.
"Thrushaster!" The dappled she-cat bounded forward to greet the starry white cat.
"Hello, Dapplestar," Thrushaster greeted her daughter. "For your ninth life I give you the sympathy of a mother's love. Use it wisely to protect your Clan."
As Thrushaster reached forward to touch Dapplestar's nose, the dappled she-cat buckled beneath the burning pain.
Watching from nearby, a small black and white she-cat leaned forward. "Are you alright, Dapplestar?"
Thrushaster backed into the starry ranks. "She is strong, Patchwish."
As Thrushaster brushed past Patchwish, her whisper grazed the medicine cat's ear. "But she could make a terrible mistake that may lead the Clans into an insufferable darkness."
Patchwish jumped at the sudden ominous tone, turning to ask Thrushaster more, but the white starry cat had faded. The vast field was fading too, and Patchwish closed her eyes, waiting to wake up beside the Moonpool.
Blinking open her eyes, Patchwish stirred, with her newly made leader at her side. She turned to gaze into Dapplestar's blue eyes. "You must be wary, Dapplestar," Patchwish broke her leader's gaze, looking at her reflection in the starry pool. "A warning was sent to me; be wary of who you trust."
Patchwish reached down, extending a claw, and gently touched the pool, sending chaotic ripples across the surface.
