Sneak In

Okay... So it's probably best I don't get caught again. Who knows what they will do to me if I get caught.

I made my way over to the gates and climbed over the metal bars. As I dropped down, I felt the harsh ground beneath my feet. I looked around to find some sort of entrance to the building. All I could see were a few windows open and a door that was slightly ajar. I continued to walk past the- wait? A door was open... I could just walk straight in.

Maybe I didn't have to sneak after all. As I went to reach for the handle of the door, I felt the door being pushed towards me.

SMACK! The door hit me in the face, making me stumble backwards onto the floor. I looked up to see...

The guard. The one I'd upset a few days prior.

His gaze fixed on me as he held out his hand to help me up. I don't think he recognised that it was me at first, that was until he shone his flashlight in my face.

It took less than a second for him to pull me up from the ground towards him in a hug.

"Oh, you're alright! I was so darn worried about you. I knew you'd come back, that fancy soundin fella said so! Oh thank god you're alright."

"Yeah, I'm fine. Uh... Mr guard. Can you take me to Yancy's cell, please? I need to see him."

"Why of course I can. Follow me!" He guided me back into the building. I'd never been this way before, maybe because I hadn't tried to sneak out before or come back...

We slowly made our way back through all the cells, until finally, we reached a cell. It was dark, because of it being lights out, but the guard lit a candle for me that sat on the outside of the cell in a candle holder. He passed it to me and unlocked the cell door. I noticed someone lying in the bed. Their figure slowly moving up and down. I made my way towards them slowly.

I looked at their face. It was Yancy.

I wanted to talk to him, but I didn't want to wake him. I debated whether I should just wait till morning and sleep next to him or wake him up now.
