Ashante POV Part 9 continued (40.)

When I left E following behind me this morning, we split up after pulling out of the condo. He went left and I went right, towards the hospital. I'm pretty sure it was stress, but I planned on going to see Lauren to make sure nothing else was going on with me since I've been so sick lately.

When I walked inside, everyone was happy to see me, and shared their comforting words of support. Shortly after, Lauren took me into a secluded exam room and handed me a cup to pee in.

"Really?....A pregnancy test?" I asked surprised.

"Well when was the last time you had your period?" she responded.

I sat quiet, and realized I haven't had it in a few weeks. That wasn't unlikely though, my period was always irregular. I had to get on birth control when I was younger just to keep it maintained but had gotten off of it when I turned 21.

Lauren noticed my hesitation and smirked at me.

"Mmmhm you know where the bathroom is" she added laughing.

I took a deep breath and dragged my feet to the restroom. Once finished, I handed Lauren the cup and we both checked the hormone levels together in anticipation.

"Oooh" I started off as the stick began to change colors.

"My" Lauren interrupted as she looked intensely.

"God!" we both said in unison as the results read positive. We looked up at each other as a small smile crept across my face.

"I'm having a baby?" I asked, shocked to myself.

"Imma be an Auntie!!" Lauren shouted back. We laughed as she pulled me in for a huge hug. She jumped up and down in excitement while I stood in disbelief. My eyes began to get watery as I thought of what Momma said to me in my dream

"I hope those are happy tears!" Lauren stated while grabbing my face and wiping them away. I nodded, still unable to talk, and smiled lightly.

"I gotta um...I gotta go...I'm supposed to meet Nana for lunch and then date night with E" I said.

"All right well lay back,...I'll try to get this sonogram done quickly for you"

Lauren could not contain her joy. While she gave me a transvaginal sonogram, she talked about all the things she couldn't wait to do with her neice or nephew. She had a bunch of plans that she could not have just come up with.

She was ready.

Though I was excited, I kind of tuned Lauren out, thinking of how I should tell Erik and how he would react. With all that has been going on, adding a baby into the mix seemed like too much to handle. On the other hand, I know he would be over the moon.

"Uhhh...Earth to Princess!" Lauren said, waving her hand in my eye view.

"Sorry!" I added with a light laugh. "Just in a bit of shock I guess."

She smirked while looking back at the  screen.

"So I'm going to say....you are...5 weeks in....and....I don't think we'll be able to hear the heartbeat today...but
...here are a few pics for you."

Lauren smiled while printing out two sonogram copies for me. I glared at the image and wiped a tear forming in my eye. She hugged me tightly and giggled with glee.

After a few more moments I left the hospital full of bliss. Lunch with Nana was so hard because I wanted to tell her, but Erik needed to be the first to know. She knew I was keeping something from her though.
