chapter 21

Cindy's POV
     We walked into the library and Kevin picked out a novel for me, I didn't really want to read but I just had to get out of the room with Kevin, we couldn't seem to keep our hands to ourselves.
         “I never thought you'd be one to read novels” I said and he laughed.
           “Well, I don't, I just happened to read this one, under duress“ he said and I laughed. “But it's a good one tho, it's about a girl stuck on an island surrounded by crocodiles” he said and I laughed.
            “I guess that seems like something you'd read.” I said and he smiled. I didn't really notice his dimples, it's really small, hardly even noticeable.
              “Like I said, I was forced to read it” he said and smiled. “My sister loved this book a lot ” he said with a sad smile.
                “I'm sorry you lost her” I said and he shrugged.
              “I've moved on” he said and forced a smile on his lips and I smiled back. “Oh my God, my mom's coming this way and she's already seen us, smile” he said quickly and smiled. “Hey mom” he said and I started preparing myself for the look of disgust on her face but when I turned around she was smiling.
         “Hi Mrs dickson” God I didn't mean to sound so nervous but damn I was.
          “Oh honey, call me Nora, Mrs Dickson sounds old” she said and I smiled.
          “Ok Mrs .... Nora” I corrected.
            “Cindy, right?” I nodded. “Why don't you have dinner with us tonight and maybe my husband won't be so tense around you anymore.” she offered.
          “That'd be great mom” Kevin said before I could reject or accept the invitation.
            “Ok, see you guys at dinner” she said and turned to go “ten minutes” she said as she left.
             “Your mom is _”
             “Awesome” he said and I nodded. “Yeah where do you think I got it from?” he said and I turned to face him, he had that smug look on his face.
           “Did I ever tell u how arrogant you are?” I said and smiled.
         “Did I tell you how beautiful you are” he said and I blushed
             “How can you be so smooth” I asked .
           “I'm charming" he said  and we sat down to read the novel, more like him telling me about the novel.
          
             Ok so it's dinner time and we are at the table, I'm sitting beside Kevin and Ella is sitting across from me, Nora is beside Ella and their dad is at the head of the table. We're eating pasta, well most of us. I'm picking at my ravioli and Mr Dickson is giving me the stink eye.
         Stay for dinner dear, maybe my husband will get to know you. Big lie.
         “So Cindy how are your parents?” Nora asked trying to ease the tension.
          “My dad's ok” I said and she picked up the hint that I don't have a mom.
            “So does your dad know you are here?" His dad asked coldly.
            “Dad stop” Kevin said and I dropped my fork, not really having any appetite.
            “I beg to take my leave” I said and Nora asked why, like she isn't here. “I think I lost my appetite” I said and pushed my seat back and made my way back upstairs and set out to look for my clothes.

  Kevin's POV
       I don't get why dad's being so uptight.
          “Dad why?” I asked, I don't know why Ella's being quiet either, she's always coming to Cindy's rescue so what's changed.
           “She can do better than you” he shrugged. “You're probably gonna ruin her life” he said and I'm really angry right now.
             “ I don't understand you sometimes Dad” I sighed. “Kevin, stop being a player, you said” I said raising my voice a bit. “Now that I've finally found a girl that I love” I inhaled sharply. “Just stop, please” I said and left the dinning area and went to find Cindy.
  
      Ella's POV.    
             “Wow, dad thanks for ruining dinner” I spoke up for the first time this evening. “I don't get why you won't just let him be, Cindy's a good girl” I said and he sighed.
             “Exactly my point, he's gonna ruin her life,” he said and I shook my head.
           “ Yeah, Kevin used to be a one night stand until he met Cindy,she's changed him,” I paused. “I think he's in love Dad and I'm just glad it's with my best friend” I said.
           “I know Kevin is a good actor, what if this is just an act and he's gonna dump her after today?”  this man's dumb.
          “He's changed, for real” I don't even know what to say anymore.
           “Well, he_” this man is stubborn.
            “He has done her before” I interrupted “Well he more like, made her go to a party with him as his date and then filled her up with alcohol till she was drunk and then tricked her to fuck him ” Dad looked shocked and kind of disappointed and so did Mom. “Yeah and we know Kevin never apologizes for anything, but somehow she managed to make him feel bad apologize and somehow he even put his life on the line to save her one  time when that went on a field trip to the Niagra falls.” okay now this was a shock to them. “Yeah so if you are still in doubt_” I trailed off meaningfully and left.
    
      Nora's POV
        If what Ella said is true then Kevin loves this girl more than he lets on.
       “Have fun apologizing Bill” I said and left my husband who looked shocked.
